Established in November 1998, Shanghai Walker Exhaust System Co. Ltd. (SWEC), specializing in developing and producing automotive exhaust systems, is a joint venture between Tenneco Automotive Inc., USA (TA) and Shanghai Tractor & Internal Combustion Engine Corporation (STEC), a subsidiary of Shanghai Automotive Industry (Group) Corporation (SAIC). TA, as one of the world’s largest auto components developers and manufacturers, provides SWEC with various original product designs as well as technical and developing supports; SAIC, as one of the best automotive enterprise in China and the parent company of SVW and SGM, also provides SWEC with multiple market opportunities and policy supports. With supports from both partners, SWEC succeeded in becoming the only exhaust system supplier for Passat B5 of SVW, not only arranged and ensured production and rapid capacity increase, but also earned good quality reputation and various future businesses. By the end of year 2004, SWEC is to be one of the largest exhaust system manufacturers and most prospecting one in China with an annual sales revenue of more than RMB1billion for more than 300,000 sets and to establish the best technology center to undertake future exhaust system development and research.
