Position: Children’s Program Assistant
Half the Sky was created by adoptive parents of orphaned Chinese children in order to enrich the lives and enhance the prospects for the children in China who still wait to be adopted, and for those who will spend their childhoods in orphanages. The Assistant will be responsible for a multitude of tasks concerning the programs and will work closely with Program Coordinator to ensure the smooth running of the children’s program.
At the beginning responsibilities will include:
•Basic Administrative work (Filing, document handling, faxing, phone call and e-mail correspondence….)
• Contact program sites concerning various issues
• Maintaining and updating the program database
• Translating from Chinese to English and vice versa
• Making sure quarterly program reports, administrative lists, payrolls and other documentations from the various Welfare Institutions are received on time
• Picture Scanning, progress reports processing and sending
• Perform other duties as requested
As the successful applicant gets more familiar with the work, she will have the opportunity to get more involved in the whole children’s program coordination and take part in other tasks.
Qualifications and Experience:
•Bachelors Degree (English Major preferred)
•Bilingual Mandarin Chinese/English strongly required, (both written and spoken)
Must be able to do oral and written translations from Chinese-English and vice-versa
•Administrative experience
•Good computer skills including word, spreadsheets, data base, scanning, PDF
• Dependable, very organized, problem solver and good team player
