searchers in our lab.  The group is home to Internet Economics, a set of proje

cts focused on deployment-based research and new value creation models that us

e the Internet as a platform.  
Roles & Responsibilities：
Conduct research on economic topics related to the Internet. Work with Microso

ft Research managers, consultants, other students and software engineers on to

pics which may be related to online commerce, gaming, media, social networking

 or other areas as agreed.  Your work may have visibility to senior management

 at Microsoft Research Asia and may offer opportunities for publication or dep

loyment. Required Qualifications：
We are looking for
	Ph.D candidates who are strong in research, analytical, business and 

strategic thinking.  
	A passion for research with exceptional quantitative skills is requir

ed, including mathematical background in economics such as econometrics, mathe

matics, or statistics. 
	An understanding of concepts from business, social sciences, and/or e

conomics is required. Preference in hiring will be given to students with top 

grades jn  graduate level university courses in these subjects, or equivalent 

experience.
	Candidates should be self-motivated, entrepreneurial, and curious. Ca

ndidates will be thoughtful about current trends and their potential impact on

 business and society.
	You must be good at both reading and writing in English. Good oral co

mmunication skills, including English, is also required. 
	You need to be available to work full time for at least 5.5 months.

to drive the next generation of Web search by leveraging data mining, machine 

learning, and knowledge discovery techniques for information analysis, organiz

ation, retrieval, and visualization. In addition, in contrast with current Web

 search methods, which essentially do document-level ranking and retrieval, th

e Web Search & Data Mining Group has created search at the object level to bri

Roles & Responsibilities：
Web Search & Data Mining Group of MSR Asia is looking for graduate students as

 interns to assist ongoing research and development on web search.
Position 1: 
1.	Assist researchers in research projects
2.	Explore innovative technical solutions
3.	Construct data structure and algorithms
4.	Write quality code for experiments, prototypes, and demos
Position 2:
1.	Auto-tagging: automatically tag blog posts and Web pages for browsing, rend

ering and searching; 
2.	Query-classification: automatically classify queries into semantic classes 

or detect the appropriate vertical search(s) for the queries.
3.	Content-based image understanding: image annotation & Web image quality ass

essment.
Required Qualifications：We are looking for
Position 1: 
1.	Long-term & full-time is preferred (Need your supervisor's approval), 6-mon

th’s internship or above is preferred
2.	Solid coding & programming skill and experience
3.	Research background in machine learning, statistics, data mining, and infor

mation retrieval are plus
4.	Strong responsibility, perseverance and courage to face challenge
Position 2:
1.	Candidates should strong at research with solid math basis and enough knowl

edge on machine learning and/or image analysis or those strong at development 

with solid knowledge on data structure and algorithms;
2.	Rich experience on C++ and/or C# programming;
3.	Active attitude and easy to communicate;
4.	Good oral and written English;
5.	This is a three-month full-time internship, which may be extended based on

Required Qualifications：We are looking for
Position 1:
1.	BS/MS in Computer Science or any related technical field and possess the fo

llowing skills;
2.	Good C/C++ programming skills;
3.	Project experience in data mining or pattern recognition is preferred; 
4.	Good reading and written English;
5.	Good communication skills and excellent teamwork.
Position 2:
1.	With good Experience on AJAX/Javascript technology, Database design and pro

gramming. 
2.	Know well of OLAP or experience on DBMS writing is a plus. 
3.	Be professional in C/C++ and professional in C# web application development

4.	Have good sense of algorithms and complexity theory is also needed.  
5.	Fulltime is preferred.

navigate physical surroundings. New technologies are emerging that can support

 human-machine communications with features that are natural to humans. The ch
