External Job Description : Agilent VEE (Visual Engineering Environment) is one of the leading Windows based graphical programming environments for Test and Measurement Industry. It is used by engineers and scientists all over the world to control instruments, make measurements, analyze data and automate their tasks. You will have the opportunity to take the next major release of Agilent VEE through its entire product life cycle. Depending on your skills and interest, you will be able to work on areas such as algorithms, instrument control, user interface design and programming, OS and network programming, compiler, Microsoft .NET technologies, etc. The major responsibilities will include:

- Design and implement the next major release of Agilent VEE
- Document your design and code
- Debug and test your own code and the entire product
- Maintain the current release and fix defects when needed
- Actively participate in continuous training of the product and software skills in general
- Collaborate with engineers in other areas such as marketing, support and documentation

This is a great opportunity for people with strong CS background who want to go beyond basic web or database programming. This is also a great opportunity for people with EE background and strong experience in SW to work on SW that provides an important linkage between PCs and instruments.

External Qualifications : Required:

- M.S. degree in CS with some EE experience or course study, or
- M.S. degree in EE or Computer Engineering with computer programming experience and strong CS knowledge
- Solid C and C++ foundation with programming experience of at least 4 years (may include 2 years of academic programming experience in graduate school)
- Solid understanding of computer science concepts like operating systems, data structures and algorithms, object-oriented analysis and design
- Experience in Windows programming and debugging with Microsoft Visual Studio
- Not afraid of reading and debugging huge amounts of existing code
- Experience in shell commands and scripts
- Ability and desire to work in a close team environment
- Passion to learn and adapt quickly
- Effective written & verbal communication skills in English
- Willing to take a lead in solving difficult technical problems with sometimes minimal guidance
- Be able to create and prototype your ideas
- Willing to work in a sometimes high-pressure software production environment

Preferred:

- Experience of understanding and debugging other people’s code. For example, team coding, extensive industry experience on a large team, Teaching Assistant in university helping debug students programs, etc.
- Experience of using MATLAB
- Experience with basic instruments such as function generators, oscilloscopes
- Familiarity with SCPI instrument control language
- Experience with instrument control interfaces such as GPIB, RS232, VXI, PXI
- Experience in understanding and building UML design diagrams, preferably using tools like Microsoft Visio
- Experience in unit testing and system testing
- C# programming experience with Visual Studio .NET
- Experience with using Microsoft Office, in particular MS Excel
