Job Title:Technical Support Engineer (TSE)

Summary: 
Provide post-sales technical support to customers and field staff regarding 
operation of Spirent's products (including installation, configuration, and 
interpretation of results). Must be experienced in diagnosing, 
troubleshooting, and debugging computer-networking equipment. Experience 
with SmartBits, Adtech, Abacus, and Avalanche equipment a definite plus. 
This individual should have 3+ years of industry experience working in a 
networking related post-sales technical support environment. He or she will 
work with the U.S. Technical Support staff to assist in customer issues and 
may work with developers in conjunction with the U.S. Technical Support 
staff to explain anomalies and help to find solutions. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

Supporting customer inquiries via telephone, email, and online network 
applications 
Provide effective resolution to escalated and critical issues and guidance 
to closure 
Work with other Spirent entities as an advocate of the customer's issue(s) 
Perform verification testing on bugs reported 
Develop process to ensure consistent product support and quality of shipped 
products 
Maintain technical industry and product knowledge on a regular basis 
Determine applicable product configurations to meet customer requirements 
Effectively communicate the functional aspects of Spirent's products to 
existing & potential customers 
Database integrity management 
Assist in recognizing troubled areas in support techniques and helped to 
implement solutions 
Other duties may be assigned.
 
Competency:

Excellent written and oral communication skills required. Must be able to 
clearly communicate in written English and Mandarin. Able to express 
thoughts clearly, both orally and in writing in English and Mandarin. Able 
to document work clearly in English. 
Strong analytical skills. Able to work on problems of moderate scope where 
analysis of situations or data requires a review of identifiable factors. 
Self-motivated; highly enthusiastic team player 
Proficient with Microsoft Office tools and database programs 
Ability to identify problems in a timely manner and to work with other team 
members to find resolutions 
Ability to exercise judgment within defined procedures and practices to 
determine appropriate action. 
Ability to work in accordance with defined parameters, practices and 
guidelines. 


Qualifications: 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform 
each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are 
representative of the knowledge, skill and or ability required. Reasonable

Education and Experience:

The individual must have a Bachelor's degree from a recognized four-year 
college or a university engineering program and at least three years of 
experience in a relevant industry. A Master's degree with at least one year 
of relevant experience is also welcome. 

Experience in three (3) or more of the following technologies:

Extensive experience (1-3 years) with VoIP and related technologies 
Working knowledge of SIP, H.248/Megaco, H.323, and MGCP protocols 
Working knowledge of H.323 GateKeeper, SIP Proxy/Registrar/Presence 
Servers, MGCP and Megaco Softswitch 
Some experience with PSTN voice testing using telephony protocols such as 
SS7, GR-303, V5, and ISDN to name a few 
Understanding of complex Internet communications protocols such as TCP/IP 
down to the bit and byte level 
LAN/WAN, Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet 
Experience with routers and switches 
Layer 4-7 experience (big plus) 
Unix background, Web server background 
Understanding of DNS, Telnet, SSL, DDOS, SMTP, POP3, RTP/RTSP, MMS, 
QuickTime 
ATM, SONET, xDSL, Cable Modem, IP Multicast, Wireless, VLAN 
TCL/C++, Scripting, VPN, Loadbalancers, Firewalls, MPLS, OSPF, BGP, IS-IS, 
RIP 
Certificate in SCPT/SCPA/SCPE is a big plus
