PROCESS ENGINEER POSITION DESCRIPTION
Purpose:
To monitor, detect, resolve and if necessary revise existing materials, processes, and control procedures in order to insure consistent quality of various company products. Serves as technical resource for Manufacturing, Production Engineering, and Marketing Engineering and other ECS departments.
Essential Functions:
1. Monitors, detects, resolves and if necessary revises existing materials, processes and control procedures in order to insure consistent quality of various company products.
2. Makes accept/reject decisions on product quality on (a) questionable Brush Test Room (BTR) test sheets, (b) all powder batch tests, and (c) questionable test reports involving bulk raw materials in Receiving Inspection.
3. Plans, carries out or directs, experiments or test programs required to achieve improved product quality, cost or performance.
4. Conducts investigations into the causes of and contributes recommendations to the solution of process and manufacturing problems.
5. Investigates customer complaints and/or queries on brush materials/processes including analysis of ECS and competition materials using both traditional and advanced analytical methods (requests normally submitted by Marketing Engineering)
6. Monitors and conducts audits of performance of process machinery and equipment.
7. Assists in design, rebuilding of production and laboratory equipment and has primary responsibility for commissioning and troubleshooting of this equipment along with process modification for suitability and economy with other company departments or ECS companies.
8. Manages technology transfer to (or from) other Group companies of existing processes.
9. Works with Production Engineering/Maintenance regarding changes to equipment and processes.
10. Designs, develops, implements and maintains the necessary materials specifications and process instructions and finished material guidelines for the satisfactory manufacturing of all materials.
11. Develops/transfers test method, performs and interprets analyses for a wide range of analytical tests such as apparent density, resistivity, flexural strength, Scleroscope and Rockwell hardness, connection voltage drop, connection pull test, elemental analyses by atomic absorption spectroscopy or electrolytic analysis, weight loss tests of various types (ash, moisture, TGA), dynamic properties, etc. Being able to operate optical microscope and electronic scanning microscope.
12. Interprets results of physical properties and other tests including statistical analysis.
13. Selects, specifies, acquires, operates, maintains and upgrades all lab equipment, including mixers, grinders, ovens, balances, atomic absorption spectrophotometer, thermodynamic analyzer, thermogravimetric analysis unit, etc.
14. Generates, composes and distributes written and oral investigative/development reports, process instructions, and informational memos including tooling design data, process details to be used for costing and routing, etc.
15. Follows-up on experimental orders in process and approves material properties.

Normal eyesight (microscope analysis).
Physical Requirements:
Ability to handle raw materials, experimental mixes.
Environmental Conditions:
Laboratory, manufacturing, and office conditions.
Minimum Requirements:
1. Bachelor of Science degree in materials or chemical engineering and prefer to have 1-2 years of applicable experience.
2. Knowledge of a wide range of metallic, polymeric, graphitic and abrasive materials.
3. Ability to communicate in English in speaking and writing.
