Network Engineer General Skills: Setup mSwitch equipments (e.g., media servers, gateways, operation support servers, and switches/routers) at sites for service readiness trials and perform system integration testing. Provide technical documentations on operational procedures and provide presentation to support technical transfer for regional offices or customers if requested. Support and coordinate technical field escalations. Receives very minimal supervision with no formal instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments. Excellent written and oral communication skills: proven track record of promoting knowledge share. Proven crisis management skills. Capable of working at the same high level with R&D, Business Units, Product Management, Service Organizations & end-users. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Applies known solutions to solve problems. Must be able to provide management and account teams of daily/weekly status reports for major/critical customer issues in writing (e.g. email, spreadsheet, etc.). Spoken language fluently: (1) English, (2) Mandarin Technical Skills: The position requires the following technical skills: ? Some knowledge of Internet protocols, class of service, and quality of service. ? Some knowledge of broadband access technologies, such as iAN8000. ? Some knowledge of AN, LAN, WAN, MAN networks and Protocol Analysis & Testing ? Background in traditional voice switching, VoIP, Supplementary Services, Value added services e.g Prepaid, Centrex, C-mode etc, IN services, ? Experience with TDM and IP protocols e.g., SS7/ISUP, INAP, MAP, SIGTRAN, Parlay API, SCTP, MTP, Wireless Q931, V5.X, ISDN PRI, MGCP, H.323, SIP, MEGACO, SIP, SNMP ? Experience with different access technology e.g. iMG, iSG, iTG, MS, SBC, PHS, IP phone/IAD, V5 POTS, iAN-2000, iSmartPC Phone etc… ? Knowledge of Solaris/Unix Operating Systems at the sys admin level. ? Some knowledge of Sun Cluster, Veritas Cluster, and experience in Solstice DiskSuite, and Veritas Volume Manager highly desired. ? System administrator level of multi-user operating systems (e.g. Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, Windows NT), some experience in operation and security configuration of network devices (e.g. routers, switches, firewalls, intrusion detection devices, remote access servers) ? Experience with backup and recovery systems such as Legato Networker (Enterprise Backup SW), or Veritas NetBackup. Job Duties: As appropriate, the candidate will be responsible for: ? Replicating/ duplicating major (technical) customer issues with internal equipment (e.g. 3rd party sources), while working in a high-pressure environment. ? Travel to customer’s sites as required up to 25% of the time, for equipment installation and/or troubleshooting of Beta products, major release upgrades, on-site training, and special assignments such as problem resolution that cannot be managed from escalation centers. ? Provide on-line application, installation, pre- and post sales support to customers as required assisting peer group. ? Working with Beta and R&D to identify compatibility, compliance and certification issues that have not been covered and testing/resolving these before the product goes to public release. This includes setting up and testing the products with relevant applications and products from other vendors such as Sun, Oracle, Veritas, etc. ? Responsible for reporting issues/problems identified, writing application and release notes that will be published to the user community and document relevant information such as workarounds or suggestions for setting up different applications using our products and other vendor products. ? Responsible for reviewing and approving new product specifications and engineering releases to ensure that they will meet user requirements. Proactively making suggestions for future releases and products, based on their experience with existing products. ? Place outbound calls to Regional Engineers as required for follow up on difficult problems and status of Beta testing. ? Provide expert technical assistance to appropriate groups (i.e. Regional Escalation Centers, Sales, Field, Business Units, R&D, etc.) as needed to resolve the customer’s technical issues. ? Responsible for creating an in-house duplication of customer environments/applications, developing test bed facilities, running specific test and reporting information to appropriate groups. ? Work closely with R&D and Technology teams for New Product Introductions (NPI) during initial trial deployment for all new product releases. ? Create and publish solutions created for a particular product/ technology to be accessible internally & externally via Support websites (e.g. Total Services, Knowledge Base). ? Champion the customer’s needs in a responsible manner, highlighting the common technical issues with the escalation center (as applicable) or R&D. ? Develop excellent working relationships with R&D, the Regional Escalation Engineers, Field Support, and external customers. Education: A Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Telecommunications. Experience with customer service is a plus. A can-do attitude will ensure success in this role.
