2004年10月，汤姆逊集团（ww***net[点击查看]）在位于北京西北部被誉为“中国硅谷”的中关村地区宣布成立其又一研发中心。作为全球研发部门不可或缺的一部分，此研发中心共两个实验室，目前拥有近 300 多名高素质人员。其中一个实验室主要致力于研究新型数字通讯系统（音频及视频压缩系统、高清电视传输系统、有线及无线网络中的数字内容传输系统等）所需的关键性技术的研发，而另一个实验室则负责应用程序的设计与开发，如移动数字电视、用户界面、有线、卫星及地面数字机顶盒以及移动网络等。此研发中心旨在研究出适合中国市场的用户界面和软件，并参与中国技术标准的制定。
