Description： The Broadband Wireless China Research Centre can/will play many roles. Below is a brief list of many of the major ones envisioned.

Strategy
1. Create/gather annual/semi-annual overviews of the Chinese telecom industry highlighting differences with the U.S. telecom industry. Contributes to environmental scans
2. Contribute to the strategy of Motorola and Motorola Labs through inputs reflecting the region/country.
3. Act as focal point for the China FUTURE program and other forums of importance to Motorola. Disseminate the results of FUTURE programs to all appropriate Motorola entities.
4. Create liaisons between Broadband Wireless China Research Centre and Chinese government entities, in wireless technology areas.

Research

Establish major owned unique research capabilities and programs within WSR-China.
Create IPR for Motorola and Motorola Labs aligned with Motorola’s or Motorola Labs strategy.
Create solid relationships with key Chinese Universities with particular emphasis on hiring of fresh-out staff, identifying key research professors and political/technical contacts for future consulting relationships, monitoring key research programs at Chinese Universities.
Impact

Participate to and support Motorola China R&D Institute Liaise with and support Motorola’s businesses in China. Help form linkages between Motorola’s businesses and the Chinese market/technology. Drive customer partnerships in China.
Establish/maintain relationships with all the major Chinese wireless/cable carriers on behalf of Motorola/Motorola Labs. Extend this relationship to the carriers R&D labs where appropriate.
Extracting value: Extract current and future value out of the Broadband Wireless China Research Centre via technology transfers to product groups, selection of projects for business incubation, and/or licensing of IP from the labs.
Participate in and drive standards on behalf of Motorola Labs – European/World Standards Actively participate in the search for new Motorola investment opportunities/Motorola Labs technology acquisition opportunities and link these opportunities to Motorola Ventures and the Labs Tech Acquisition organizations, respectively.
Support Motorola PR activities in China as appropriate
Requirement： Research Engineer in the Broadband Wireless China Research Centre

Participate to new projects for the Next Generation of Broadband Wireless Access systems, with a focus on Chinese specific standards and also the development of low cost broadband wireless systems. The work consists in participating to the effort on research, design and implementation of a new smart and innovatives systems to succeed to the current broadband chinese and international wireless standards (such as 3GPP, 802.16e, 802.11). The work is challenging with opportunities for recognition, growth and advancement. Teamwork with members of diverse cultures, movement among technical organizations and the opportunity to contribute to multiple teams are characteristic of this environment.

The work will consist on contributing to the lab objectives in one or several of the following areas :
· design and implementation of PHY, DLC (MAC/ARQ/RLC) and Convergence layers algorithms.
· design distributed communication mechanisms and advanced self organizing concepts for next generation of Broadband Wireless Access and Wireless Local Area Networks · cross layer concepts to optimize the performances of the system · system simulation · contribution to standard bodies to lead innovative ideas and intellectual property developed into the standard · participation to technology transfers to Motorola product sectors around the globe in order to speed up development process of "cutting edge of technology" products

Specific Knowledge/Skills Accountabilities, duties and Responsibilities · Comfortable in an international environment. Intercultural management skills. English fluency.

Knowledge and Skills capabilities required:
· Master/PhD in the field of digital communications including one or several of the following : digital signal processing, layer 1 and/or layer 2 mechanisms, wireless system simulation (Matlab, Opnet...), CDMA, OFDM, MAC protocols, routing protocols, Radio resource management, ...
· General knowledge of the complete communication stack with its application to wireless networks.
· General knowledge of one or several wireless standards (802.16, 802.11, 3G...).
