Group Overview

The Innovation Engineering Group at Microsoft Research Asia takes ideas to
marketplace realities using prototyping, doing deployment-based studies etc.

Roles & Responsibilities

We are looking for one or two highly-motivated and creative interns to work on
a prototyping projects in web search and in web news. We have some innovative
ideas to measure and improve search relevance, and some ideas on new ways to
explore news. We
need your help to create prototypes to prove our concepts, and to help develop
new products and product features!
Our interns will take work with scientists and designers to go from ideas to
working prototypes. A major part of the responsibility is to write efficient,
robust and readable code. We will also expect our interns to contribute novel
ideas and designs,
and to test and evaluate their prototypes.

Required Qualifications

Ideally, our interns will have a BS/MS in Computer Science or any related
technical field and possess the following skills:
Great programming skills
Good reading and written English;
Good communication skills and excellent teamwork.
Available immediately, for at least 4 months (from now till the end of November
2007.

Intern1: We are looking for one intern-developer with great C# skills and some
SQL knowledge and experience, ideally with project experience related to search.

Intern 2: We want another intern-developer with C# and  (or Jscript)
background.

communications. The group's current focus includes speech recognition to enable
computers to facilitate access to data, help create content, and perform tasks;
speech synthesis to enable
computers to speak with a human-sounding voice, to respond and provide

Roles & Responsibilities

MSRA Speech Group is looking for an Intern candidate for a 6 month project on video recommendation.  The student will engage in comparative research between content-based collaborative filtering recommendations of videos.  The research is targeted at a 
number of real Microsoft products such as MSN Video and Soapbox.
  
Required Qualifications

1.The student should have considerable research expertise in the areas of machine learning and statistical processing.  
2.Experience with either natural language processing or speech recognition is also required.   
3.Finally, the student should be fluent in C++ and C# languages.  
4.Skills in scripting languages such as perl, python, and linux shell script will be viewed favorably.
5.Can commit for at least 6 months.
6.Can get advisor's written approval.
