Job Description

Supports the development of new products by leading the manufacturing effort to define and drive DFA/M and DFT with the goal of reducing the assembly and test time, and increasing the overall product quality. Investigates and promotes cost avoidance efforts during the development process. Drives the evaluation and enhancement of the engineering design verification process with the goal of releasing zero design defects to production. Manages technical change to existing products through the RCN process. Drives the reduction in product costs of goods through the ongoing investigation and qualification of lower cost parts and more effective processes. Actively participates in the Defect Reduction Teams by working to identify and drive to resolution product issues. Ensures that Manufacturing receives the required level of product training.

Skill Needed

Has a working understanding of system architectures, design concepts and engineering development practices. Demonstrates this understanding through a positive impact on the quality and productibility of the end product. Establishes technical direction through the investigation and evaluation of new manufacturing technologies. Requires little direction from Manager. Works in partnership with the NPI Program Mgr. Global Communication. Interpersonal and team skills. Conflict resolution. Technical Problem solving. Decision making. Influencing. Meeting deadlines. Global vision & planning. Leadership and presentation skills. Handles large and complex projects and processes. Works with others to implement technical strategy. May handle multiple projects. Reports to NPIE Manager or Senior NPI Manager. Interfaces with wide company wide BU, Mfg., partner, and CA personnel. Has a thorough understanding of the CAE and manufacturing tools used in the job. Takes an active role in the evaluation and enhancement of existing tools. Is also involved in investigating and evaluating new tools and equipment that will improve the quality of the product and efficiency of the group. Is able to train and mentor others in the use of tools and equipment. Demonstrates technical expertise in the use of multiple tools and pieces of equipment. Has a good understanding of the entire product development process. Works in conformance to established manufacturing processes and procedures. Promotes team conformance to established processes and procedures through formal and informal training and mentoring. Is perceived as a technical leader both within and across the organization.

Job Description - Test Development Engineer III

The position is part of the Data Center/Storage manufacturing team. This is a high growth area for Cisco and is supported by heavy investments, a robust New Product Introduction (NPI) roadmap and a winning strategy designed to differentiate us from the competitions by providing unprecedented innovation and value to our customers. The individual coming to work in this space should expect a fast pace environment, working closely with engineering, result oriented team, excellent learning opportunities both on the product side as well as manufacturing technology side and a changing environment (with associated opportunities) as Cisco moves forward realizing the Data Center vision.

This position is responsible for ordering and constructing production test platforms for use in manufacturing. The responsibility consists of designing test stations (custom fixtures if needed), procure test equipment, ordering cables and assemble test stations (fixtures) for production. The other responsibility includes debugging test stations, generating tester documentation, develop functional test script and implement diagnostic test codes. This individual will address production test problems by working closely with Contract Manufacturer (CM), EPIE, affected suppliers and Design Engineering.

This is a senior manufacturing test development position requiring leadership, manufacturing functional test processes knowledge and experiences with both hardware and software programming. This individual is expected to work independently. This individual will receive minimal instruction on daily activity. Performance is measured based on meeting overall objectives and successfully meeting test development goals in NPI metrics.

This individual is expected to lead cross-functional teams. This individual needs to have good communication skills, interpersonal skills and be a team player. This individual needs to have skills in handling conflict resolution and problem solving. This individual is expected to make decision on his projects and assignments. He/She needs to use Influencing skills to resolve different opinions and issues in meetings. This individual should be shelf motivated in meeting deadlines.

It is highly desirable if this individual is able to provide vision, planning and leadership skills on test technology and test processes.

This position reports to Manufacturing Engineering Manager for Test Development. This individual is expected to interface well with managers and directors in Manufacturing, CM and other business functions. This individual will interface with Hardware Engineering on a regular basis regarding technical issues, test coverage, testability, and manufacturability. This individual is the key contact interfacing with CM on test issues.

This position requires a BSEE or BSCS plus 6+ years Functional Test Development experiences. MSEE with 2+ years in Test or Design experience preferred. Demonstrated programming skill in one or more software languages (Unix, Linux, C, C++, Java, Lab View and Perl) is required. 768587
