Since Dr. Willis Carrier invented the world’s first scientific air conditioning system in 1902, Carrier has always stayed at the forefront of the air-conditioning industry for more than 100 years. Regarded as the leader and expert in air conditioning, Carrier has 18 R&D centers worldwide with several thousand patents in the air-conditioning industry. Carrier’s products are manufactured in 73 facilities on six continents with 45,000 employees around the world. In 2006,Carrier’s sales were beyond US$10 billion, leading the Heating, Ventilation, Air conditioning and Refrigeration（HVACR）industry. Carrier set up its first joint venture in Shanghai in 1987, and now Carrier has 13 operations in China with approximately 2,500 employees. In 2004, Carrier opened a US$15 million compressor center in Yileng Factory, which is Carrier’s largest joint venture in China. In April 2005, Carrier held a groundbreaking ceremony for its global research and development (R&D) center in Shanghai’s Pudong area. Carrier has projected that it intends to spend an additional US$50 million in China during the next few years on R&D, including this center.
