Today, GM has automotive facilities and sales operations in more than 15 countries. GM sold a record 1,247,000 vehicles in Asia Pacific in 2006, taking its regional market share to 6.5 percent.
In 1993, GM established its Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore to provide regional support and be closer to individual markets and better positioned to respond to opportunities. It relocated its headquarters to Shanghai in 2004 to put it in closer proximity to its growing operations in Northeast Asia, which account for a significant portion of its business.
Over the next decade, GM anticipates that vehicle sales in Asia Pacific will grow at a faster rate than sales in any other region.
