Purpose of the new Centre

To scale up the programme activities and impact of the China Business Leaders Forum (CBLF) by establishing a permanent Centre, the China Centre for International Business Standards, in Beijing which enables leaders of Chinese and foreign companies/organizations to work together to improve standards for business conduct by sharing knowledge and experience and developing a sustainable frameworks of corporate governance to be enacted across the wider business community in China and internationally.


Key Objectives

The Centre will:
provide regular venues where participants from Chinese and foreign companies/organizations can share experience and knowledge;
collect and publish domestic and international materials and examples of existing good practices to be shared among participating companies and external audiences;
identify relevant information and conduct research for programme implementation;
design appropriate frameworks and models of practice for local business sector;
provide training to managers of participating companies and their joint venture partners, appropriate government department representatives, and university faculties and students; and
promote cross-sector and cross-border dialogue between Chinese and foreign companies, civil organizations and governments on responsible business practices.


Main Activities

Main activities of the Centre will include:
holding quarterly executive roundtables and more frequent workshops and meetings in Beijing and Shanghai on specific issues of corporate governance and responsibility;
working with companies to collectively develop a sustainable framework of corporate governance to be promoted across the wider business community;
involving university faculties and students on programme activities where feasible (i.e., building case studies, conducting researches, gathering articles, tracking other relevant initiatives/organizations);
publishing available materials on business standards in both Chinese and English;
improving on its current website in order to better disseminate programme materials to broader audience;
engaging with other relevant national and international organizations (for example the China Business Council for Sustainable Development and Transparency International) to identify and agree on specific area of cooperation to maximize experience, resources and impact; and
facilitating communication and cooperation between Chinese and foreign companies, civil organizations and governments.
