INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Sourcing Engineer
The interns role is to assist the Regional Supply Unit in Beijing on sourcing and procurement processes and on the development of an E-platform in support of sourcing-related activities. This China based E-platform aims to support global UN sourcing and procurement from China. Under supervision of the staff in the Senior Regional Global Supply Officer, the intern will perform the following additional responsibilities:
" Cooperate on the planning, configuration, implementation and administration of a supplier database.
" Responsible for the maintenance and further development of the offices sourcing and procurement website.
" In coordination with a multi-functional team, assist in the appraisal and qualification of suppliers according to organizational guidelines.
" In line with changes in manufacturing sectors, develop proposals on technical specifications for key UNHCR commodities
" Assisting with the planning and execution of other projects and duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
" Graduate: preferably in Engineering, Computer Science, or MIS. A Master Degree in Database Development and Software Engineering or business-related fields is desirable.
" Previous experience: database development, sourcing or purchasing. Emphasis on the technological aspects of manufacturing processes and quality-related issues would be an advantage. Experience in development of e-platforms and databases are essential.
Comprehensive knowledge of international and national technical standards (specifications) required for sourcing and procurement of products in various materials and components.
" Computer Knowledge: The candidate should be proficient with one or more popular database software packages, such as Oracle, Microsoft SQL or MySQL.
" Full proficiency in MS Word, Excel and Power Point and Visio.
" Experience creating SQL*PLUS or basic PL/SQL procedures for data analysis and manipulation in Oracle.
" Knowledge of computer languages: Java Script, Java, and/or VB.
" Experience using MS Excel and MS Access for data analysis and manipulation.
" Knowledge of Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop and other graphic design software would be advantageous.
" Language Requirements: Fluency in English. Knowledge of Chinese language is an asset.
" Very detail oriented.
The internships are fulltime for a period of six months. Regrettably, UNHCR is unable to sponsor individuals interested in this programme, and the internship positions are unpaid.

Supply Management
The interns role is to assist the Regional Supply Unit in Beijing providing support to the objectives and activities in Supply Management (Sourcing, Procurement and Logistics) in accordance with UNHCRs procurement needs, priorities, goals and values. Under supervision of the Senior Regional Global Supply Officer, the intern will perform the following functions:
" Taking targeted proactive actions to support supply management activities of the Regional Supply Unit Beijing to promote the development of business opportunities, connecting key demand products (UNHCR procurement requirements) and manufacturing sectors, where China products offer competitive advantages.
" Carrying out research and coordination with Chinese manufacturers on new or alternative products to support humanitarian operations globally in line with UNHCR requirements.
" In coordination with a multi-functional team, assisting in the technical appraisal and pre-qualification of suppliers according to UNHCR guidelines and requirements.
" Carry out research on the development of a regional freight agreement that considers competitive international transport service providers currently operating in China.
" Supports the development of UNHCR warehouse structure and services in support to global operations.
" Assisting with the planning and execution of other projects and duties as required.
Required Qualifications:
" Graduate: preferably in Logistics, Business Administration or Engineering. A relevant Master Degree in Engineering or business-related fields is desirable.
" Previous experience: 3 years relevant experience required.
Comprehensive knowledge of international and national technical standards (specifications) required for sourcing and procurement of products in various materials and components.
" Computer Knowledge: The candidate should be fully proficient with MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Visio.
" Experience using MS Excel and MS Access for data analysis and manipulation.
" Knowledge of Corel Draw, Adobe Photoshop and other graphic design software would be advantageous.
" Language Requirements: Fluency in English. Knowledge of Chinese language is an asset.
" Very detail and results oriented, excellent communication skills
