Allianz China Life was founded on January 25, 1999. Its shareholders are Allianz Group, the German financial services conglomerate, and CITIC Trust Co., Ltd. In 2006, the company changed its name from Allianz Dazhong to Allianz China Life.

Since its establishment, Allianz China Life has steadily grown its business. After China joined WTO and the open-up of financial markets, Allianz China Life entered a period of rapid growth. In 2007 it reached a turnover of 3 billion yuan with year-on-year increase of more than 150%. Allianz China Life now ranks among the top international insurance companies in China. The company's multi-channel strategy was one of the key factors to the success. Bancassurance's premium soared 200%, runner-up among international insurance players in China. Agency manpower also achieved an over 130% jump during the year.
