Equity Research Associate (Applicants applying from China)
Hong Kong, Singapore

The Company

Fidelity International was established nearly 40 years ago and serves the investment needs of individuals, institutions and advisers in markets outside the Americas, providing mutual funds, defined contribution pensions, segregated portfolios and multi-manager products. The company and its subsidiaries manage assets of more than US$258 billion (as of 30 June 2008) for investors worldwide.

Our international network enables Fidelity to combine a global approach with a local focus. Fidelity International opened its Tokyo office soon after the company was founded in 1969 and our success in Japan has served as a springboard for our expansion across the Asia Pacific region. We have had a fund management base in Hong Kong since 1981 and opened a Taiwan office five years later. The past two years have seen us establishing local fund management businesses in Australia, Korea and India. In addition, we have an office in Singapore where we offer a larger fund range than any other investment company.

Our US affiliate, Fidelity Management and Research Corporation, was founded in Boston in 1946 and is one of the country's largest mutual fund companies.

The Department

We have a team of over 60 research professionals and fund managers based in our Asia Pacific offices in Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, Korea and India. Their role is to identify investment opportunities in these diverse and rapidly growing markets and provide investment recommendations to fund managers both locally and worldwide.

At the centre of Fidelity's success is our approach to managing money, which has remained unchanged since we were founded. Our approach places first-hand, detailed research at the core of our decision making, ensuring that every security - whether equity or bond - is investigated as meticulously as possible before being included in our funds.

Our Analysts undertake extensive research at all levels of an organisation to understand exactly how they are positioned to deliver positive results for investors. We believe it's only through this first-hand contact - rather than relying purely on external research - that we can fully evaluate an investment's true potential, and consistently add value for investors in our funds.

A presence across key ‘investment centres' ensures that we truly penetrate the business, economic, political and social landscapes in each region we operate. This local fluency, born primarily out of local staffing, is fused with a global investment philosophy and communications systems.

The Position

The Equity Research Associate will be assigned a group of companies comprising a sub-sector of a specific industry and will utilize both internal and external resources to analyze those companies and their stock within that industry. The Associate will meet with top corporate management teams, industry experts, sell-side analysts and experienced colleagues in order to develop investment recommendations that they will then communicate to Fidelity's Equity Portfolio Managers. Fidelity provides a training program as well as ongoing instruction which highlight the skills needed for fundamental investing. Selected candidates who have demonstrated consistent, exceptional performance during his or her time with Fidelity will be eligible for promotion to an Analyst position.

The Recruitment Process

The recruitment process at Fidelity consists of an application, aptitude testing, interviews and background vetting checks. The content will involve getting closer to the appropriate business team, meeting the people you'll be working with as well as senior management.

You'll need good communication skills and solid analytical capabilities, together with a strong work ethic and an appreciation of effective teamwork. We value people who can work in a constantly changing environment, who are keen to learn and keep on learning.
