I.       JOB SUMMARY

 

Asian Composite (Composite) provides the framework for Asian local Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) professionals to create and maintain MSDS for each individual country. MSDS provides the employees of Dow Corning internal as well as external downstream customers with information that communicates the potential hazards of the materials Dow Corning provides or uses for their sufficient awareness and a clear guidance on their safe handling of these materials.

 

The Product Safety Professional is responsible for authoring and maintaining MSDS on Dow Corning products, intermediates and waste materials to assure compliance with regional GHS regulations for those countries that choose to implement GHS early while maintaining compliance with local MSDS regulations for those choose to implement at a later time. The responsibility also includes maintaining adequate documentation of the evaluation/assessment process according to ISO standards.

 

To perform the aforementioned main responsibility of the position, the Product Safety Professional is expected to develop knowledge in understanding the overall GHS guideline, the specific requirements that might apply differently from one country to another at the Composite assessment level, and the management of country-specific requirements at the MSDS assessment level. The Product Safety Professional is also expected to propose measures and actions for quality enhancement and to take responsibility of MSDS improvement and/or update as appropriate, both reactively and proactively.

 

 

II.     MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

·          The main tasks of this position are to authorize and maintain Composites and MSDS for DC products, intermediates and wastes in multiple languages in accordance with country specific GHS requirements.

·          The Product Safety Professional is also expected to develop knowledge and skills in the health hazard and/or environmental hazard assessments for the purposes of Composite assessment.

·          This involves contact with both employees of various functions and with customers and suppliers. This activity requires the Product Safety Professional to make decisions based on their knowledge of the regulations and Dow Corning’s products and raw materials to communicate the appropriate hazard warnings.

·          As GHS aims at global harmonization, the Product Safety Professional is to work with a global mindset. Occasional inconvenient meeting times are to be expected.

·          Down the stream, the Product Safety Professional will be interacting with internal business contacts to address issues and offer solutions. The Product Safety Professional also needs to provide information related to various industry standards and MSDS regulatory requirements to facilitate business interaction and to support the sales of existing products and new product commercialization.

·          Externally, the Product Safety Professional will have opportunities to interact with customers to explain the information provided on the MSDS that might be of the customer’s special concerns.

·          The main tool of this position is the use and development of specifications for SAP/EHS module capabilities and rules to continuously improve workflow efficiencies and the quality of MSDSs. These require interface with IT as needed.

 

III.    KEY SKILL REQUIREMENTS

·          Degree in Toxicology, Pharmacology, Biology, Public Health, Environmental Health Sciences, or Environmental Engineering related. MS preferred, BS acceptable. Must have interest in learning GHS guideline and related MSDS regulations and DC products.

·          Good interpersonal and communications skills.

·          Good team player: willingness to participate in related areas of work when needed by the team.

·          Calm and flexible about changing set priorities as needed; delicacy on balancing adherence to what is right and compromise to what is acceptable/possible.

·          Capable of being a self-starter, initiative, self-conscious about deficiency and self-motivated about learning and development to make improvement.

·          Sensitive to customer needs with sense of urgency.

·          Proficiency in English and Mandarin.
