Actuate Corporation, the world leader in scalable Business Intelligence (BI) applications, announced the official launch of the Actuate China Development Center in Shanghai in November of 2003. The newly inaugurated center will focus on technology development and engineering to accelerate worldwide product adoption of Actuate’s Business Intelligence platform. Actuate will combine its successful product development methodology with China’s technology talent pool to create a world-class software development center.
The center will act as an extension of Actuate’s other product development centers across the United States located in San Francisco, California; Overland Park, Kansas; and Seattle, Washington. The China Development Center will be working in tandem with the US centers to develop products for the global market as well as products tailored to the Chinese market.
Strategically located in Shanghai Pudong LuJiaZui, the center will focus on developing advanced Business Intelligence enterprise reporting software for its key vertical markets: financial services, telecommunications, government, manufacturing and transportation.
Actuate has also appointed three local business partners – Softsys, Sygate and GrapeCity – to drive sales and business development for Actuate’s products and to help increase awareness of the Actuate brand. Software Engineer/Developer at all levels
Location: HuaRong Building Floor 21, No. 1271, South PuDong Road , Shanghai 200122, PRC

Job Description:
Software Developer will be responsible to develop and maintain Actuate Software; understanding requirements; writing design and function specs; working with the team lead to create project plans and schedules; implementing the feature as planned; fixing bugs, and helping with customer production problems when needed.

Minimum requirements include:
1. BS degree in CS/EE from top universities, MS or above preferred;
2.  1+ year commercial software development experiences is a big plus;
3.  Strong communication skills, must be comfortable with English at work;
4.  Strong background in Java programming;
5.  Familiar with Windows and Linux platforms.

Requirements for Senior Software Engineer/Developer:
You must have at least 3 years commercial development experiences and has significant background in two of the following areas:
- User interface (GUI) design and implementation (JAVA);
- Database applications (Oracle, DB2, SQL Server, Sybase);
- Web application development;
- Server development on Linux (Java);
- Software testing tools and methodologies.

Software Quality Assurance Engineer

Job Description:
Software Quality Assurance Engineer will be responsible for software testing; understanding requirements; creating test plans based on requirements; implementing test plans and automated tests; developing testing tools; assisting bug fixing, and helping with customer production problems when needed.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Understand requirement specifications, functional and design specifications;
2. Create and implement test plan and test cases;
3. Test products and debug product defects;
4. Maintain the existing product and assist with solving customer issues.

Requirements:
1. BS in Computer Science or related field from a top university;
2. Familiar with Java programming language;
3. Strong computer background to learn and develop new skills;
4.Comfortable with English as a working language – all technical documentations will be in English.

Customer support Engineer
Location: HuaRong Building Floor 21, No. 1271, South PuDong Road , Shanghai 200122, PRC

Job Description:
The Customer Support Engineer (CSE) provides accurate and timely technical support to technically skilled Actuate software customers. The CSE deals with extremely varied support issues that have differing priorities and must be addressed within predetermined service levels primarily via the telephone and e-mail.  This position is suitable for candidates with solid technical skills and outstanding communication skills.
Please note that this is an international position based in Shanghai, China.  Qualified candidates must demonstrate the ability to interact with English speaking customers effectively.  Due to the client base this engineer will be supporting, this position will work the night shift to coincide with time zones in North America. ?Actuate offers a comfortable, team-oriented work environment with a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for both personal and professional growth and development.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Research, resolve, and record all levels of software questions from customers, with an emphasis on the more complex technical and application questions, quickly and repeatedly;
Answer all incoming support calls six or more hours per day, providing support within Actuate Softwares stated service level goals;
Record and maintain knowledge collected from each incident in accordance with the standard format;
Work with Engineering and QA to aid in the resolution of product issues;
Write technical documents (i.e. FAQs, Application Briefs, etc.) both for the corporate Web site and for publication on hard copy.
Participate in Team Meetings.
Participate in the testing of new and enhanced products.
Assist with special projects as assigned by management such as helping to implement and maintain Actuate software knowledgebase, training new CSEs, participating in group training, etc.
Perform other duties as required.  Some travel may be required.

Requirements:
Four-year degree (or equivalent work experience) preferably in Computer Science.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Proficiency in the English language is a must as the engineer will be dealing primarily with North America.
Ability to solve problems systematically and effectively, while ensuring the highest customer satisfaction and staying within the stated service level goals.  ?A proven ability to interface with customers (both on the phone and in person) in a sales and/or support role.
Strong technical skills, especial in Java; Microsoft Windows 95, NT (Operating System and Networking);UNIX (Operating System and Scripting);RDBMS (Operating System and Scripting) ;ODBC and native drivers; SQL; General understanding of object oriented technology; Some Visual Basic or C++ knowledge, or an understanding of programming concepts.
Flexibility in completing assignments.
Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously while accomplishing desired results.
Ability to work well with little guidance in a very dynamic atmosphere under sometimes demanding circumstances.
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
