KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

·         Serve as the primary resource person for the design and administration of the research center’s web portal.

·         Develop a dynamic, database-driven web portal with user friendly interface for scientific applications. 

·         Work in coordination with bioinformatics and lab scientists in the day-to-day maintenance, software/hardware installation, automation, troubleshooting and repair of Linux/Unix servers and other scientific computational systems, including compute farms and computer controlling complexes that interface with specialized scientific instruments such as DNA sequencers.

·         Work very closely with scientists at the site as well as bioinformatics scientists and IT personnel at Monsanto’s other locations worldwide.

·         Any other job/work assigned.

PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:

·         A BS/MS in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience is required;

·         Cross discipline training in biology, molecular biology, genomics, or bioinformatics are strongly preferred;

·         Extensive knowledge and hands on experience in web portal design and implementation, database driven web application development, and trouble shooting and performance tuning;

·         Fluent in Perl, C/C# or Java programming.

·         Familiarity with scientific equipment and automation is desirable;

·         Familiarity with common bioinformatics tool packages or bioinformatics tool development is a plus.

·         A minimum of 3 years of post-degree experience in Linux / UNIX systems administration is desirable;

·         Necessary skills to manage day to day systems administration responsibilities as detailed above;

·         Strong written and oral communication skill in both English and Chinese, interpersonal skills to work on collaborative projects within and across teams in a highly productive matrix environment.

·         Strong networking and relationship building skills

·         Work experience in corporate / industrial environment is preferred.
