THE ROLE
The Consumer Retail China Director will work closely with the Global Consumer Retail Managing Editor to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts and demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with experts who can speak to strategic trends in the retail, restaurants and consumer products industries. Effective team management skills, idea generation, and the ability to present research findings to clients, both on the phone and in-person, are other key aspects of the role. The Consumer Retail China Director reports to the Global Consumer Retail Managing Editor.
PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:
Thorough understanding of the China retail and consumer market, with a strong background in footwear and apparel, retail wholesale and/or consumer products industry. Ability and willingness to understand other key retail and consumer markets in Asia, especially Japan, also a plus.
Extensive industry network of contacts in China, beyond public relations and investor relations
Minimum of 7-10 years experience in retail and/or consumer products , investigative journalism experience a plus
Exhibits consultative leadership skills and the ability to manage and motivate a diverse group of people across a time zone diverse virtual environment
The ability to analyze and identify essential findings; strategize and think broadly forward; address issues and solve problems as they come up
Excellent English writing and editing skills, a knack for interpreting interview data and spotting discrepancies in a story
Native level Chinese spoken
Ability to attend conferences
Schedule flexibility is a must due to working with clients, reporters and editors in different world time zones
Strong and positive communication skills are of essence; adroitness at conveying and articulating research findings to a wide audience, including clients
The ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivation and confidence
Candidates with international experience are a plus
Candidate needs to be located in and work in China.
