QUALIFICATIONS :
- BS or MS in Metallurgy, Materials Science or Materials Engineering,
- Bi-lingual English & Mandarin required.
- Self-starter, with a passion for delivering materials and process solutions to product design, quality and manufacturing problems.
- Strong communication skills and the desire and discipline to pursue life long learning in the field of materials science engineering.
- Experience in the use and application of metallurgical & chemical lab equipment, including SEM, EDS, FTIR, XRD, NDI, metallography and mechanical property testing.
- Experience with heat treating, PVD coatings, grinding, machining, surface cleaning, raw material quality control, electro-chemical machining, laser machining, electrical discharge machining.
- 3-5 yr. professional experience and/or co-op/intern experience in product development or manufacturing support role desirable.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Failure analysis of warranty returns & corrective action development.
Investigate & resolve internal & supplier manufacturing process quality problems.
Technical support for in-house & supplier processes related to metalworking and microstructure.
Development & validation of new suppliers.
Identification & validation of material & process related cost reductions.
Specific activities include, but are not limited to ...
- Planning, executing & documenting metallurgical failure analysis investigations.
- Developing and monitoring execution of control plans for in-house metallurgical processes.
- Supporting maintenance & improvement projects for in-house metallurgical processing equipment.
- Supplier quality audits, including review of supplier's control plans.
- Lean manufacturing & Six-Sigma projects to increase production capacity or improve quality.
- Writing material & process specifications to define design requirements.
- Engineering drawing review and sign-off.
- Occasional travel to suppliers or technical conferences, up to 10% of time.
