Role Specification Department summary:PayPal Marketing is responsible for all the marketing activity of PayPal China. This includes building our Cross Border Trade (CBT) business , developing incremental revenue streams and optimising new and innovative opportunities for the business. We primarily focus on onsite marketing, email marketing and search marketing; we also work with channel partners, offline events and PR channels.
Overall purpose of role: The role heads up the B2B marketing for PayPal China. The overall purpose is to define and deliver the Business marketing strategy for PayPal China to grow PayPal's brand preference, usage and share of CBT.
Focus will be directed across the defined Merchant segments of SMB, LM, key verticals and partners.
Core responsibilities:
1. Strategy & Planning
  • Define the longer term Business marketing strategy for PayPal China
  • Develop and execute quarterly & monthly marketing plans
  • Work in conjunction with global teams to develop actionable strategic initiatives and share best practice, e.g. segmentation models
  • Manage the Business marketing budget, prioritising for greatest returns
  • Track and measure impact of activities to show ROI

2. Brand Understanding & Preference
  • Create compelling marketing campaigns to deliver an increase in preference
  • Find key areas of opportunity on and off the PayPal website to increase understanding of the brand
  • Leverage market research and analysis to prioritise activities
  • Work with PR colleagues to ensure consistent message across all channels

3. Relationship Marketing
  • Lead the Business relationship marketing strategy and execution to support business objectives and drive transactions and revenue per account
  • Review customer lifecycle, working with Customer Experience Manager, determine key opportunities and pain points to ensure relevant messaging to drive greatest return


4. Campaign Management
  • Develop and publish Business Campaign Calendar in line with key retail activity and product launches.
  • Working with merchant services team, design, execute and measure effectiveness of promotional programmes to drive sustainable long-term user activity and benefits. Ensure promotional offers are targeted and relevant
  • Execute email, banner and interstitial campaigns and develop regular reporting on ROI
  • Continual enhancement of the PayPal site, messaging and on boarding experience to drive improvements in acquisition and activation rates.
  • Manage campaigns to drive product adoption to targeted audiences eg WPS to EC etc
  • Build robust Business media plan in line with Comms objectives, effectively manage media agency.

5. General Management
  • Develop, direct and manage direct report (intern/contractor), and lay plans for continued growth of team
  • Key member of Marketing team
  • Maintain excellent stakeholder relationships
  • Act as China lead or representative on high profile global strategic Business marketing projects
  • Managing relationships with external agencies and internal teams


Person Specification
  1. Experience required:
  • Proven experience of creating strategic Business marketing plans and executing tactical campaigns with robust ROI measures.
  • Extensive online marketing experience, with working knowledge of search, display, email and social media marketing channels
  • Deep knowledge of Relationship Marketing skills and techniques, including segmentation and propensity modelling
  • Min 3 years people management skills
  • Strong project management skills with experience with work prioritisation, planning, influencing and working in cross-functional teams
  • Financial services, Internet or e-commerce background is a bonus, but not essential

  1. Technical skills:
  • Strong MS Office skills, particularly strength needed in PowerPoint and Excel
  • Knowledge of online marketing & CRM systems such as Mediaplex, Unica, Omniture or similar
  • Knowledge of HTML & Photoshop a plus
  • Experience with analytical tools such as Business Objects, MicroStrategy, SQL added bonus

  • Excellent academic background
  • Undergraduate degree, Master's degree preferred

  • Strong people and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Experience of working across multi-disciplinary teams
  • Proven analytical ability and results orientated
