This position belongs to our Global trainee programme, which will be relocated to somewhere out of China for at least five years
UOP is a worldwide leader in developing, commercializing and supplying innovative process technology, catalyst and separation systems, products and services. In the area of petroleum/petrochemical processing, virtually every refinery in the world employs at least one of our 75 processes. Our expertise extends to research and development, process technology, molecular sieves and adsorbents, catalysts, specialty chemicals, process plants and equipment, engineering, technical services and manufacturing.
Overview:
Begin your career with 10 - 14 months at UOP's headquarters in Des Plaines , Illinois (a suburb of Chicago ). Here you will follow one of three initial career paths emphasizing, Development, Operating Technical Service or Process Controls Engineering. Depending on the path, you will gain experience in one or more of UOP's key technologies by operating pilot plants, designing process control systems, troubleshooting UOP units and performing other challenging assignments. Follow this experience with a 3-5 year assignment where you will travel full time to multiple locations around the world supporting UOP customers in operating plants as a process or controls engineer. Engineers completing this career development program have gone on to a variety of UOP positions in R&D, engineering, marketing, field support, and project management.
Directly accountable for:
Initial Training - Participate in 12 - 18 month training program designed to prepare new engineers to be technical advisors
First two weeks in classroom setting with other new hire engineers learning general administrative information
12 - 18 month training period focused on learning UOP technology and the processes and procedures by which UOP delivers technology to our customers
Four weeks training on Engineering design process and deliverables
Field Operating Service - 3 to 5 years in duration completing international and domestic assignments.
2 - 6 months of field training
Provide field technical assistance for:
- New or revamped unit checkouts and startups
- Troubleshooting customer units
- Development activities in commercial units
- Catalyst related field support
Set and meet customer expectations
Follow recommended safety procedures
Provide feedback including suggested improvements on UOP process designs
Manage business expenses to meet both project and cost center budgets
Work effectively with team members
Achieve business goals by assisting with support issues
Adhere to FOS and UOP company policies

Basic qualifications:
BS in Chemical Engineering.
1-3 years experience in the petrochemical, gas processing or refining industry.
Additional qualifications:
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word.
Experience with at least one of the following UOP technologies (Catalytic Reforming, Hydrocracking, Hydrotreating, FCC, Merox Treating, HF Alkylation, Paraffin Isomerization, Adsorptive Separations (Parex and Molex), Xylene Isomerization and other Aromatics processing, (Cumene and Ethyl Benzene) is preferred.
Flexibility to work hours that are dictated by customer requirements and assignment scope.
Ability to work in a physically challenging environment.
Ability to commit to a 24 month minimum on the road before transfer.
Ability to interact with customers on a global basis.
