Clinical Applications Specialist

Position Title - Clinical Applications Specialist

Reports to - Phaco Development Manager

Division - Alcon China

Location - Field

Basic Job Description:

This position has comprehensive responsibility for facilitating the adoption of Phacoemulsification as the first line of care for cataract surgery. This includes: instruction and ongoing coaching of existing cataract surgeons in the conversion from ECCE and SICS to Phaco; the training of novice Phaco, and non-cataract surgeons in Phacoemulsification procedure and techniques; education and instruction of surgeons on the optimal use of Alcon products such as Infiniti with OZiL, Laureate, Single-Piece AcrySof IOL, Natural IOL, IQ, DuoVisc, Clearcut Knifes; provide Operating Room coaching in the demonstration and application of all products to target surgeons. Work with all related field staff to improve competency in the proper use of products, surgical technique, OR protocol, professional OR surgical consultation and conduct.

Primary Accountabilities and Essential Functions:

1. Evaluate and select target trainees and hospitals for the Phaco Development Program.

2. Instruct surgeons in the entire process of converting from ECCE and SICS to Phaco

(Operating Room and Wet Lab based).

3. Teach surgeons how to achieve optimal surgical and patient results with selected Alcon

products.

4. Coach and support all related field personnel while consulting with surgeon trainees in

the operating room.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor Degree, Medicine

Preferred Education:

Masters Level Trained Ophthalmologist

Minimum Experience:

Trained and actively participated in ECCE and Phaco procedures

Knowledgeable about core technology for all types of cataract procedures

Bachelor Degree with 3-5 years ophthalmology experience and with cataract surgery can be substituted for Masters Degree

Preferred Experience:

Employment with a premium international medical device company

Operating Room ophthalmic product application and consultation experience
