微软亚洲研究院“明日之星”实习生项目
Microsoft Research Asia is recruiting interns for Stars of Tomorrow Internship Program.
微软亚洲研究院是微软公司在美国本土之外最大的基础科研机构，被美国著名技术杂志MIT? 《Technology Review》誉为“世界上最火的计算机实验室”。 自1998年成立以来，启动了面向亚太区高校博士生、硕士生和优秀本科生的“明日之星”实习生项目。该项目由微软亚洲研究院和国内外高校共同执行，旨在培养高素质的计算机基础研究人才。实习生进入微软亚洲研究院后深入到每个研究小组进行为期三个月或更长时间的实习。截止至2010年10月，已有3500名来自亚太区高校的学生到微软亚洲研究院实习，平均每年有400个实习机会开放给所有的学生。

Group Overview
Microsoft Search Technology Center Asia (STCA) is driving the innovation and development of Bing search, which has the mission of delivering the most relevant knowledge to our customers by being not just a search engine but a “decision engine”. At Bing, we have enormous wealth of data, ranging from user interaction logs to web documents, from user feedback to system performance data. These data are critical for achieving overall Bing goals. The STCA Data Mining team develops and applies advanced techniques to turn our petabytes of data into knowledge and insights; and turn insights into actions and impacts.

Roles & Responsibilities
The interns will be working with the STCA Data Mining team to apply data mining and statistics techniques to process and experiment large volume of search data and generate useful insights. The interns will be required to conduct programming, data processing, reporting, and experimentation for various data mining projects.

Required Qualifications:
1. Advanced degree (Master, PhD) in data mining, computer sciences, statistics, machine learning, mathematics, or related fields
2. Strong knowledge in areas such as statistics, data analysis, data mining, web mining, machine learning, informational retrieval, and database.

Group Overview
Researchers in the Machine Learning Group are turning their ideas into reality in areas such as data mining, machine learning and online advertising. Recently, Machine Learning group are investing continuous research efforts to understand users, organize users and help improve the experience of user interaction with the Web through different kinds of computation devices.

Roles & Responsibilities
The intern will be working with a research team on a mobile assistant project.? The goal of this project is to develop an assistant system which is able to understand end users, collect/digest information from the Web, and efficiently help users to finish their work.? The system will be deployed on mobile devices and tested by a group of audience. The intern will be required to conduct programming, simulation, and experiments for this project, or if capable, conduct result analysis of algorithms and solve new research problems arising from this project.

Required Qualifications:
1. MS/PhD in Computer Science or any related technical field and possess the following skills
2. Strong in programming with C# and C
3. Background in machine learning (clustering, classification, information retrieval, text mining)
4. Having mobile related project experience is preferred

Group Overview
Push forward the state of the art in hardware computing to innovate in software services and to realize novel devices. Research fundamental computer architecture, identifies hardware opportunities in specific services, and builds integrated hardware/software solutions. Extrapolate hardware trends, study new interaction models, and construct working prototypes. The end goal is to deliver rich and responsive user experiences at work, at home, and on the move.

Roles & Responsibilities
We are looking for top programmers to develop cutting edge GPGPU applications in the filed of web search.
The candidates will work with a group of researchers and developers to
1. Profiling and finding hot spots
2. Design and develop high performance GPGPU programs
3. Explore optimal system architecture and bring up a full working system for commercial usage

Required Qualifications:
1. Strong C/C programming ability.
2. Strong CUDA programming ability.

Push forward the state of the art in hardware computing to innovate in software services and to realize novel devices. Research fundamental computer architecture, identifies hardware opportunities in specific services, and builds integrated hardware/software solutions. Extrapolate hardware trends, study new interaction models, and construct working prototypes.

Roles & Responsibilities
The interns will work on exploring approaches/strategies for efficiently managing storage hierarchy with novel devices like Flash memory. The interns will be required to design and implement system level software/firmware on realistic hardware platforms, including application-level data structures, or file system/IO subsystem, or device drivers/on-board firmware. If qualified, the interns’ work will be both used in realistic systems, and used to conduct experiments for academic papers.

Required Qualifications:
1. Can commit at least 3 months full-time internship, with your advisor’s approval
2. Strong skills in C/C
3. Solid knowledge and experiences in system level software development
4. Experiences in I/O management (file system, disk I/O optimization, SAN) is highly preferred
5. Experiences in Flash memory or SSD (solid state disk) is highly preferred
6. Experiences in search engine is a plus
7. Capability to quickly learn from English literature is a plus
8. Majoring in Computer Science or related technical background is a plus
