JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: Lab Engineer/Technical Engineer

REPORTS TO: Lab Manager/Technical Manager

DEPARTMENT: Lab/Engineering Department

LOCATION: Shanghai, China

DATE: April 7, 2011

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Under guidance, direction and general supervision of senior staff, operates test equipment and

conducts specific and routine tests; disassembles and assembles test samples; records technical

data, drafts reports, writes product descriptions; notes and records substandard features of

products; acts as an assistant in complex or unusual tests, under guidance from senior staff;

maintains good housekeeping at all times.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. With the Senior Technician's assignment and supervision, conducts a variety of standard test

procedures of moderate complexity using laboratory test equipment within a certain product

area. Conducts routine tests independently. Assists the Senior Technician / Certifiers in

complex or usual tests.

2. Records technical data, drafts reports, writes product descriptions. Performs mathematical

calculations required to summarize test results. Relates test results to product specification.

Acts as a liaison with other departments as required by Senior Technician / Lab Manager.

3. Assembles and disassembles test samples. Hooks-up laboratory test equipment in preparation

for testing and operates most laboratory test equipment.

4. Notes and records substandard features of products which may appear before or during the

tests and refer them to Certifier / Senior Technician.

5. Maintains good housekeeping of tools, equipment and work area following tests and carry out

assigned laboratory clean-up duties. Performs other duties assigned by the Senior Technician.

6. Practice safe practices; observes safety of self and others in the test lab at all times. Reports

any abnormal or dangerous condition to Senior Technician/ Lab Manager for immediate

attention and improvement.

7. Responsible for specially assigned lab functions by the Lab Manager.

 

Education:

 College diploma in Engineering, Lab Technology.

 CET 4 or above, good at English and Chinese in both reading and writing.

 Computer proficiency in Windows, MS Word, Excel.

 

SKILL

Interpersonal & Communication Skills:

 Team-oriented with good interpersonal skills.

 Good communication skills and proven ability to work with minimum supervision.

 Problem solving ability; self starter; good decision making; good organizational skills.

Analytical Skills:

 Knowledge of a variety of standards, electrical codes; knowledge of electric and electronic

circuits; troubleshooting electronic equipment. Practical knowledge of working with test and

measurement instruments and equipment, such as: oscilloscope, power supplies, multi meters,

power analyzers and chart recorders; operation of machines such as drills, table saw, band saw,bending machines.

 Ability to work independently in a team-based work environment. Manages multiple deadlines.
