2. Responsibilities/Job Roles

Design new lighting products and systems using LED light sources. Key product types under development include LED replacement lamps, indoor and outdoor luminaires for use in general lighting applications.
1.Mechanical Engineering assignments involve multiple tasks and programs for LED systems in General Illumination.
2.Cooperate with LED Systems design engineer on the mechnical design for the LED product.
3.Utilize Mechanical Engineering tools (SolidWorks) and business productivity tools to develop prototype and production solutions
4.Participate in defining product requirements
5.Translate functional specifications into mechanical design requirements. Employ Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) methodologies in applying functional specifications.
6.Perform Tolerance Analysis on product designs.
7.Work with engineering team to meet program objectives including performance, scheduling and cost.
8.Use best practices and accepted New Product Introduction (NPI) process to assure success of assigned project.
9.Maintain drawing/documentation vault and drawing revision levels
10.Support vendor evaluation for technical and cost issues. Interface with vendors to assure compliance to drawing and product specifications, Quality Control documentation and support Advance Quality Planning activities. 11.Mentor other Mechanical Engineers within global team in design and drawing techniques
12.Conduct simulations and test evaluations of the mechnical design.
13.Optimize the design for cost competitiveness and manufacturability.
14.Collabrate with PMQE on the manufacture process review and improvement
3. Qualifications/Requirements
BS in Mechnical Engineering from accredited university
At least 5 years engineering experience with BS degree or 2~3 years working experience with MS degree
Minimum 3 years engineering experience with demonstrated capabilities in 3D CAD design and tolerance analysis
Good understanding of casting and plastic injection processes
at least 2 years Mechnical design experience, Experience of LED/Lighting prodcut design is preferred
Able to use English as working language
Able to use at least two of the software to do mechnical design (ProE, AutoCad, Solidworks, etc)
Knowledge of Industrial products design and manufacturing
Experience with LED industrial is preferred
Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred

Design new lighting products and systems using LED light sources. Key product types under development include LED replacement lamps, indoor and outdoor luminaires for use in general lighting applications.
1. Using DFSS (Design for Six Sigma) methods, design, develop and manage optical performance of LED packaged lighting products for both saturated and white light colors. This individual will work closely with the design team, mechanical engineers and other members of the development team (including chip design, phosphors, and packaging) to translate customer requirements into high performance, low cost, manufacturable products. Efforts will include:(a) maximizing light extraction from the LED lamp by participating in system design and choice of materials and optical configurations,(b) working closely with suppliers, develop and prototype optical systems leading to mass volume production of components(c) provide concept feasibility of multiple optical designs for a concept to drive design direction (d) support commercial team with optical calculations for determining applicability of LEDs to new markets.
2. Use application requirements to define product. Includes use of key software tools to develop concepts and predict performance.
1) Solidworks or similar 3D solid modeling software
2) Optisworks or similar optical modeling tools
3. Build cooperation with optical/ lighting fixture suppliers on product manufacturing.
4. Build optical test capability in lab.
5. Mentor team members on optical aspects of lighting design.
6. Use measurement tools to quantify product performance. Includes full range of photometric measurements (photometry, goniometry, etc).
7. Cooperate with product management team to define the product appearance and rendering
8. Optimize the design for cost competitiveness and manufacturability.
3. Qualifications/Requirements
BS/MS in Physics, Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Lighting Engineering from accredited university
4-6 years hands-on design in electro-optical systems with modeling & material science experience.
LED fixture design experience above is a plus
Able to use English as working language
Ability to provide quick-turn solutions and creative conceptualization
Excellent teamwork; must be able to influence cross-functionally and within the team
Excellent interpersonal/facilitation skills; strong verbal and written communications skills
Self motivated; must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with limited direction
Problem solver- must have experience in translating customer/marketing requirements into technical specifications
Previous design experience with electronics packaging, plastics injection molding, sheet metal, extrusions and metal stamping.
Able to use at least one of the software to do optical design (OptiWorks, Spoes, Lighttools, ASAP)
Knowledge of Industrial products design and manufacturing
Experience with LED industrial is preferred

Summary: Design new lighting products and systems using LED light sources. Key product types under development include LED replacement lamps, indoor and outdoor luminaires for use in general lighting applications.
Cooperate with LED Systems design engineer on the mechanical/Thermal design for LED products.
Conduct thermal design and analysis on LED Systems integrated solutions utilizing such tools as FEA and CFD
Find solution/material/process for improving the thermal design of the LED system
Define and support validation testing as part of a robust Reliability and Quality program at both design and production stages of the process.
Work with engineering team to meet program objectives including performance, scheduling and cost
Provide consultant expertise across all product development platforms and interface with engineering team members to ensure quality of mechanical and thermal designs as part of the Design and Program Review process.

3. Qualifications/Requirements
BS / MS – Thermal Eng, Systems Eng, Mech. Eng, Ind, Eng, or Engineering Physics from an accredited university
5 years of experience in related discipline beyond BS degree, including technical leadership responsibilities.
Specifically demonstrated capabilities in Finite Element Analysis and Computational Fluid Dynamics. Knowledge of fundamental heat flow principles related to electronic components and subassemblies
Good understanding of material properties and hydrodynamics
At least 2 years thermal design experience, Experience of LED/Lighting prodcut design is preferred
Able to use English as working language
Knowledgeable in manufacturing processes and materials related to thermal management techniques and methodologies
Able to use at least on of the software to do thermal design, simulation (FlouThem, ANAsys, ICEPACK, etc)
Well understanding of thermal testing and tools
Knowledge of Industrial products design and manufacturing
