Technical Leadership Program (TLP)
Technical Operations, Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics
Summary
The Technical Leadership Program at Novartis is designed to acquire, develop, deploy, and retain, world class early career engineering talent, with leadership potential, in the Novartis Vaccines & Diagnostics (V&D) Technical Operations (TechOps) organization, through a standardized and sustainable global talent model.
Individuals with strong academic and/or early career performance record and future leadership potential are hired from leading universities around the world as TLP associates into the program. All TLPs are placed on cross-functional 6-month rotation assignments (in Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Technology Development, Engineering, Planning and Analysis, Quality etc) for a designated period. One or more of these rotations are based out of TechOps sites outside the country of hire. The TLPs are required to add value to the site during each rotation and there is mandatory objective setting and performance assessment for each assignment. The TLPs are also provided training on Innovation Quality & Productivity (IQP), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Aseptic Operations, Leadership & Teamwork, Communication, Language and Cross-Cultural Skills, etc. The end objective is to provide exposure, hands-on experience, and training to develop the TLPs so they can return to the country of hire to bridge existing technical gaps and perform future leadership roles in Technical Operations/Quality.
At the end of the rotation assignments, the TLPs are required to ‘graduate’ out of the program, and placed into full-time positions at sites in the country of hire. Successful graduation is based on - performance assessment for each assignment, final presentation before leadership team, and completion of mandatory trainings. Even after graduation, the TLPs’ career paths and performance continue to be monitored closely.
