WWF, the global conservation organization that has been working in China for 31 years, is looking for a highly skilled professional to be a Programme Communications Consultant of TRAFFIC China Programm for WWF China Office to be based in Beijing. This position will report to Head of TRAFFIC China Programme and cooperate with staff from related departments and programme officers within WWF CPO.

Background:
TRAFFIC is a joint conservation programme of WWF- the conservation organization, and IUCN-International Union for the Conservation of Nature, working globally to ensure that trade in wild animals and plants is not a threat to the conservation of nature. Following its foundation in 1976, TRAFFIC has grown into an international network, with more than 20 offices world-wide, organized in eight regional programmes. TRAFFIC actively monitors and investigates wildlife trade and provides its information to diverse audiences world-wide as a basis for effective conservation policies, legislation and programmes.
Functions:
• Plays the leading role in communicating TRAFFIC's work in China and the wider East Asia region.
• Ensures effective communication and liaison at multiple levels: (1) within the WWF/ IUCN/ TRAFFIC network, (2) to principal partners in non-governmental organizations, government agencies, academics, industry, and the donor communities, and (3) to society at large about the challenges of wildlife trade and solutions to these challenges, based on work done by TRAFFIC.
• Co-ordinate bi-annual reporting, project progress reports, publication of the State of wildlife trade in China, and reviews of programme effectiveness of TRAFFIC's work in China.
Responsibilities:
• Regularly report on issues highlighted by TRAFFIC, including TRAFFIC work progress, CITES issues, wildlife news through press releases and targeted publications (e.g., Chinese/English newsletters, and leaflets) and the internet.
• Communicates regularly with partners in the WWF and IUCN community, as well as with other NGOs and with TRAFFIC's donors. This includes (1) informal communication on TRAFFIC's work in China and East Asia, (2) leading on six-month technical reports to donors in English, (3) Oversees design for communication materials.
• Draft and deliver communications materials regarding wildlife trade such as brochures and newsletters as necessary.
• Ensure appropriate TRAFFIC clearance procedures are followed with regard to publications and other communications tools coming from TRAFFIC's work in China and East Asia. This includes aid in preparing English-language versions of Chinese material as well as liaison with programme staff and other TRAFFIC, WWF, and IUCN offices about communication plans for these publications.
• Conduct any other duties related to the organization and operation of TRAFFIC East Asia and the TRAFFIC Network as identified by the Head of the TRAFFIC China Programme and the Senior Programme Director for Asia.
Working Relations:
• Internal: Reports directly to the Head of TRAFFIC's programme in China. Works with other TRAFFIC staff in China and the wider East Asia Team, as well as other TRAFFIC network offices and the TRAFFIC Global Communications Co-ordinator, as required. Maintains a close liaison with WWF and IUCN communications colleagues in China and regionally.
• External: Media and public relations contacts, academic institutions, non-governmental organizations, donors, and in-country governmental institutions.
Requirement:
• At least an undergraduate study in communications, journalism, environmental science or related fields of study.
• Working experience in journalists, communications, PR related field is preferred.
• Proficient at writing in both Chinese and English
• Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work with a multi-cultural global team.
• An understanding of wildlife conservation issues preferred, including links with socio-economic development in Asia, and an understanding of inter-sectoral relationships related to trade in wildlife commodities.
