About the Job
PMC’s Communications Products Division (CPD) Applications Engineering team is focused on helping our key customers understand and integrate PMC-Sierra devices into their products. CPD Applications Engineers are the technical experts for a family of products or technologies used in a variety of end applications including OTN and SDH transport equipment, IP Routers, Wireless Base Stations, DSL Infrastructure and Digital Home products.
Applications Engineers work directly with customer design teams and maintain this technical relationship throughout the customer development cycle. They also work closely with PMC Sales and Marketing teams to develop technical architecture proposals that meet demanding customer requirements. Applications engineers author detailed system design guidelines, design comprehensive reference hardware platforms for customer evaluation, and assist customers in troubleshooting their systems.
Job Responsibilities
Reporting to Manager of CPD Applications Group, you can look forward to:
- Take on the role of key technical expert and primary customer contact responsible for a product or family of products in our Communications Products Division,
- Work with PMC’s sales and marketing teams to develop innovative solutions that use PMC-Sierra silicon to address customer design requirements,
- Present recommendations for device design,
- Working on a team to design and build hardware and software that demonstrate PMC-Sierra’s latest telecom devices,
- Occasional travel to customer sites may be required,
- Develop training materials for internal and external audiences.
Job Qualifications:
Requirements:
- MS degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering or equivalent.
- Understanding of communications protocols such as OTN, SDH, PDH, Ethernet.
- Experience with board-level hardware/software design and debugging
- Strong C/C programming skills
- Strong problem solving skills are required.
- Logic thinking and attention to details are required.
- Excellent verbal and written communications (English and Chinese) and strong interpersonal skills are required.
- Ability to multitask.
Assets:
- Experience with VHDL programming for FPGAs and CPLDs
- Experience with Embedded C/C driver development and debug
- Experience with VxWorks or Linux OS

Responsibilities

- Work independently, and in a team environment

Qualifications
- Bachelors or Master degree in EE, CS, or CE
- Experience/knowledge relating to hardware design, development and debug skills, including:
- High speed signal Board Design (Schematics, Layout)
- Hardware debug & bring-up
- Familiarity with bench top equipment such as protocol analyzers/exercisers, logic analyzers, and other storage related test equipment
- Good teamwork, communication and presentation skills
- Ability to effectively work with cross-functional teams and across multiple geographical locations
Desired Qualifications
- Basic understanding of EMI and High Speed Signal Integrity concepts
- Chip development/debug skills
- Experience in the Storage Industry
- Knowledge or experience with serial bus or networking protocols such as SAS, SATA, PCI-Express, Fibre Channel, Ethernet etc.
- Debugging skills and experience with kernel (Windbg), JTAG, serial port, Greenhills Debugger
- Experience with high speed debug equipment like oscilloscopes, DCAJ and BERT
- Experience or knowledge in any of the following programming languages - C, TCL/TK, Perl , Verilog, VHDL
- Experience with RISC based embedded processors (MIPS preferred)
