2011 Campus Recruitment of

Global Horticulture Xi’an Limited

GlobalHort is a Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise – established in 2006 in the Peoples Republic of China after more than 18 months of due diligence.  The head office is in the Xi’an High Tech Zone, Shaanxi Province.  GlobalHort is one of the leading vertically integrated fruit companies in China, with R&D facilities, plant breeding programs, tissue culture operations, large scale farms and production, post-harvest and added value facilities, sales and distribution offices around China across retail, wholesale, corporate as well as international marketing channels.

Strength: Shaanxi Province is renowned as one of China’s best agriculture producing areas, with favorable growing conditions including: high sunshine hours, good winter chilling, deep rich soils and an abundance of water for irrigation.  The region has excellent roading and rail infrastructure connecting the province to major domestic markets and international shipping ports.  Xi’an also boasts its own world class international airport. By the end of 2011, GlobalHort will have more than 3000MU (200 hectares) of its own kiwifruit orchards, including 300 MU(20 hectares) male plants orchard with more than 7000MU (nearly 500 hectares) grown under license and contract.  GlobalHort has entered into agreements with local government for more land to establish an additional 9000MU (600 hectares) of high paying variety kiwifruit.

GlobalHort has invested heavily in developing its sales and distribution channels throughout China and internationally.  GlobalHort markets its Panda™ branded products direct to leading retail supermarkets in major markets in China including Shanghai and Beijing.  GlobalHort also plans to lead kiwifruit exports to neighboring markets of Taiwan, Japan and South Korea – three of the world’s highest paying kiwifruit markets.

In 2010, GlobalHort established its own in-house import division, to complement its domestic supply. This division opens doors for international fruit producers to China’s high-end wholesale, retail and corporate customers. Through GlobalHort’s extensive distribution channels, GlobalHort now boasts high-end imported fruit from Chile, Peru, New Zealand, U.S.A. and Italy, including Cherries, Blueberries, Table Grapes, Kiwifruit and Apples.

This division has already seen rapid growth as the demand in China for high value, high quality, and safe imported fruit continues to grow. As the world’s fastest growing consumer market, China provides exciting opportunities across this division and the company expects to continue strong growth in this area.

Technology: In 2007 GlobalHort procured the Master License for a new red fleshed kiwifruit variety – Chuhong.  This exciting new cultivar has red and green flesh and is marketed as Panda™ Forest Red Kiwi.  This exciting new cultivar was introduced for commercial sales in 2010/2011.The product received strong demand in key markets in China. In 2008 GlobalHort also purchased the global Plant Variety Rights to a new golden fleshed kiwifruit variety Huayou – which it markets under its Panda™ Golden Kiwi brand.  More than 4000mu (nearly 300 hectares) of GlobalHort’s new kiwifruit varieties have already been developed in Meixian and Zhouzhi producing more than 4000 tons of fruit in 2009.  GlobalHort’s Pollen Research and Processing Center was built in 2010. With production commencing in 2011, this facility produces world class kiwi pollen enabling farmers to grow higher quality kiwifruit.

GlobalHort’s new pollen facility is one of the largest of its kind in the world. The facility has been established to supply the massive increase in demand in China for high-quality kiwi pollen, as well as supply global markets through GlobalHort’s international partnerships.

Fruit pollination is a major concern globally as domesticated and wild bee populations decrease alarmingly. The demand for pollen for kiwifruit and other fruits is forecast for ever stronger growth as farmers seek alternatives to ensure fruit pollination.

Cooperation: GlobalHort has exceptional relationships with local government.  From large scale land agreements for orchard development of County level to major infrastructure agreements with city governments to strategic cooperation agreements with provincial governments. GlobalHort is proud of these close partnerships which have allowed it to become the leading vertically integrated kiwifruit company in Shaanxi Province, and one of the leading companies in this sector in China. GlobalHort is poised to announce more local government’s partnerships as it positions itself to become the leading company of its kind in China, a leading company in this sector in the world.

Approximately 400 hectares of Huayou has been developed in Shaanxi Province since 2005 under license or contract to the PVR owners across more than 1400 licensed farmers.  GlobalHort has a very strong local team that meet with local farmers to share new management practices, ideas and techniques.  These meetings help to maintain a close link with farmers and to promote the advantages of GlobalHort’s new kiwifruit cultivars and cooperation with GlobalHort.  Capital and other support is available to local farmers strengthen the relationships and supply model. GlobalHort has integrated research & development, production, added-value facilities, and marketing of kiwifruit; GlobalHort offers new technology, high-paying varieties, orchard management knowledge, cash flow support, and profit sharing opportunities which means an increase in yield and income to local farmers; our kiwifruit is packed, stored and processed in modern pack houses, cool stores and added-value facilities and then sold to high-paying markets throughout China and internationally.

Future: Since 2009 GlobalHort has secured nearly 30 hectares of prime industrial land in Shaanxi Province to supports its post-harvest processing and added value facilities.

With its newly completed pollen processing and research center (Meixian), large 12,000 tonkiwi post-harvest and kiwi concentrates facility (Yangling) already under way, and plans for further facilities at Meixian and Yangling including post-harvest, food ingredients and nutraceuticals. Globalhort’s investment in this sector in Shaanxi is set to exceed 500 million RMB over the next 5 years.

By 2016, GlobalHort’s vertically integrated model will give it the capability to handle and/ or process more than 75,000 ton of kiwifruit and kiwifruit product annually.

By 2015 GlobalHort plans to have more than 20,000MU (more than 1,300 hectares) of high paying new variety kiwifruit under its own production or licensed or contracted for production.  We expect GlobalHort to be the largest vertically integrated kiwifruit company – from orchard to market in China, and, one of the largest in the world.
