PART TIME RESEARCHER/REPORTER - MEDIA/ADVERTISING

THE ROLE

The Researcher/Reporter is a part time project-based position. This person will work closely with the Asia Country Coordinator and Media Senior Editor to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community on media/advertising and other industries that may include technology, telecommunications and other topics. The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts such as media buyers in the advertising industry and demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with experts who can speak to strategic trends in the advertising industry with an emphasis on out of home advertising and online media. If candidate is not a native Chinese born speaker and citizen, those applicants must have the proper credentials and work permits to be employed in China. Applicants must be able to speak, interview, write and read Chinese with a high level of fluency. The Media Researcher reports to the Global Media Director.

 

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES:

 

• Ø Have experience working in or reporting on the China advertising industry with an emphasis on out of home advertising, online advertising, and media strategy.
• Ø A developed network of sources of media buyers or the proven ability to develop a strong source network.
• Ø Understanding how to connect the dots within the media industry is a must.
• Ø Established contacts or expertise in other industries is a plus.
• Ø The ability to speak, interview, write and read Chinese and English with a high level of fluency.
• Ø A native Chinese born speaker and citizen. If not, the proper credentials and work permits to be employed in China is a must.
• Ø Strong interviewing, writing and critical thinking skills.
• Ø The ability to work independently and ability to work from home is required.
• Ø Confidence in knowing what to do and asking questions when needed.
• Ø Understanding of MS Word, MS Excel and MS Outlook.
• Ø Living in China is a must, preferably Shanghai.

FULLTIME TELECOM CHINA SENIOR RESEARCHER

THE ROLE

The Telecom China Senior Researcher will work closely with the Asia Director to provide relevant and timely marketplace intelligence for the global investment community. China Telecom Researcher will also interact with Global Telecom Director and the rest of the Global Telecom team of reporters and editors.  The ideal candidate will possess extensive industry contacts and demonstrate the ability to develop new relationships with experts who can speak to strategic trends in the telecom and wireless infrastructure areas. Effective project management skills, idea generation, and the ability to present research findings to clients are other key aspects of the role. The Telecom China Senior Researcher reports to the Asia Director.

 

PROFESSIONAL AND PERSONAL  ATTRIBUTES:

 

• Ø Thorough understanding of the China telecom market, with a strong background in the industry. Ability to follow and understand regulatory environment for telecommunications industry in China.
• Ø Ability and willingness to understand other key telecom markets in Asia a plus.
• Ø Prior experience or solid understanding of the China Enterprise Tech, Software or Semiconductors industries, also a plus.
• Ø Extensive industry network of contacts in China, beyond public relations and investor relations
• Ø Minimum of 3-5 years experience in telecommunications , investigative journalism experience a plus
• Ø The ability to analyze and identify essential findings; strategize and think broadly forward; address issues and solve problems as they come up
• Ø Excellent English writing and editing skills, a knack for interpreting interview data and spotting discrepancies in a story
• Ø Native level Chinese spoken
• Ø Ability to attend conferences
• Ø Schedule flexibility is a must due to working with clients, reporters and editors in different world time zones
• Ø Strong and positive communication skills are of essence; adroitness at conveying and articulating research findings to a wide audience, including clients
• Ø The ability to maintain a positive attitude, self-motivation and confidence
• Ø Candidates with international experience are a plus
• Ø Candidate needs to be located in and work in China.
