Title: Materials Engineer (focus on Polymer Processing)

 

Location: Shanghai

 

Overview:

 

Initiates and conducts polymer material molding investigation and materials evaluation, provides technical support under general supervision, supports procurement and business unites on research and development activities with the objective of meeting material property targets within the materials engineering principles, procedures and systems, as well as TE business focus.

 

Responsibilities:

 

- Material characterization plan

Initiates materials evaluation specification with given material specification, proposes materials characterization plan and resources in order to meet the time and cost requirement for new materials development

 

- Materials characterization

Determine the materials evaluation procedures, equipment and evaluation techniques.  Executes development and validation tests according to the established plan in order to confirm the materials properties comply with regulations and standards.  Analyzes the causes of the material properties issues and identifies routine solutions.  Analyzes and compares the material properties and identify the alternative material supplies; provide materials solutions of complex problems for procurement and business units.   

 

- Laboratory research and project leading basic laboratory research

Working with and support cross-functional/cross-business teams in the materials evaluation and development for new materials and new products.

Research work and operation work with molding machine.

 

- Technical support

Periodically review the quality of material evaluation process and provides technical guidelines which require a review of a variety of factors. Establishes standards of procedure, in order to avoid deviation in the manufacturing or implementation of a product.

 

- Documentation

Collects and archives material evaluation reports, standards, regulations and related documents in order to ensure procedure and EHS compliance with company policy and standards

 

- Innovation & IP

Reviews patent searches to evaluate the patentability of proposed designs in order to ensure that others' patents are not infringed upon.  Provide innovative solutions to reduce test cost, improve test quality, and improve test process efficiency. Documents and communicates potential IP to ensure TE's IP is protected.

 

- Equipment purchasing

Drive professional materials characterization equipment sourcing and procurement with purchasing engineer in order to ensure appropriate test equipment is chosen within budget, according to the test and lab requirement

 

- Equipment maintenance

Leads and coaches junior engineers to fulfill the equipment maintenance plan and calibration plan

 

Education, Technical Qualification and Experience:

 

- Ph.D or Master in Polymer Material, Polymer Processing, Polymer Science and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering or related major.

- Understanding polymer material knowledge. Knowledge about principles of polymer material processing and technologies is required.

- Experience on polymer material molding such as injection and extrustion is preferred.

- Experience on polymer material processing simulation is plus
