Description

When you are a Safety Engineer at Caterpillar, you will assist in providing a safe and healthy work environment in accordance with company, state and federal regulations.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

* Responsible to help ensure employee and visitor safety and health in accordance with company, state and federal regulations.
* Provide any needed or requested assistance to operational management at facilities and Regional
Distribution Centers in regard to safety and hazardous material.
* Responsible to assist the Safety Supervisor in all matters pertaining to the safety and health of employees and is called upon to travel to various distribution locations to conduct training, help establish programs or develop safety systems.
* Direct, monitor and control the flow of chemical materials through facilities.
* Prepare and review documents for new chemicals and determines precautions and limits for using,
handling, storing and disposing these materials at the facility.
* In-depth investigation with both internal and external sources.
* Develop, present and explain programs for approval by supervisor and operational management.
* Responsible for the implementation of the program and follow up and monitor the program.
* Responsible to develop and conduct training for all levels of personnel on hazardous material use.
* Develop and implement safety training programs for facility employees on all payrolls, including at selected CLS and RDC facilities. Assist new facilities to develop safety programs.
* Monitor implemented safety programs at the facilities and resolve or assist in resolving safety complaints and problems at the various assigned facilities or as requested.
* Control operation of safety stores; maintain inventory, sales, promotions and complaints.
* Certify new vehicle operators as to safety and productivity.
* Develop, maintain and control facility Safety/Injury reporting systems including statistical analysis of and reporting of OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Administration) records.
* Computer system representative for Safety and facility systems representative for hazardous materials and OSHA reporting.
* Maintain awareness of changes to laws, rules and regulations by OSHA and Department of Transportation as well as changes to Caterpillar policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

* Bachelor Degree or above, major in Safety Engineering, EHS or related.
* In-depth knowledge of current industrial safety programs including OSHA.
* Working knowledge of facility operations.
* Ability to present training programs.
* Ability to work with others to plan and systematically develop complex programs from inception to conclusion.

* Familiar with company policies and procedures with a strong department background.
* Able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders.
