    ASIAN HIGHLAND WATER GOVERNANCE PROJECT MANAGEMER

        

      About our organization 

      The Centre for Mountain Ecosystem Studies (CMES) is an applied research laboratory jointly managed by the World Agroforestry Center (ICRAF) and the Kunming Institute of Botany/Chinese Academy of Sciences. Our geographical focus is the Asian Highlands, the vast mountainous area including the Tien Shan, Himalayas, Tibetan Plateau, and Montane Mainland Southeast Asia (MMSEA), which  is the source of most of the major rivers of Asia and directly and indirectly sustains approximately 3 billion downstream dwellers. 

      This region is characterized by diverse mountainous terrain and climates, rich biodiversity, large populations of poor minority peoples, and increasing development pressures on natural and cultural resources. Our goal is to promote sustainable landscapes, livelihoods and participatory governance for diverse stakeholders through the protection and enhancement of natural and agroforestry-based ecosystems.

      About the position 

      CMES seeks to recruit a candidate for the position of water governance project manager to be based in Kunming, China. Under the supervision of the Principle Investigator, the Project Manager will support project partners and scientists in three project countries (Nepal, Pakistan, & China) for coordinating, planning, implementing, documenting and monitoring of project activities, reports and workshops, as well as the coordination between and within project modules.  

      Primary duties and responsibilities 

      Project management  

      - Support and monitor project implementation for partners in conducting research 

      - Facilitate coordination and communication between all project partners across four modules 

      - Work with module leaders in improving integration of research, particularly on physical and social dimensions of vulnerability to climate change  

      - Prepare and assist in developing annual technical and financial reports for the project and KIB, respectively, and also the annual workplan and budget, such as preparing summaries, checking the layout, the completeness of such reports 

      - Support project evaluation at the end of the project in consultation with the Project Coordinator 

      - Arrange for periodic virtual meetings and annual workshops, and write the meeting minutes 

      - Ensure donor compliance and coherence between narrative and financial report 

      - Support development of research publications and research related outputs, e.g. policy briefs. 

      Communication  

      - Developing communication strategy and preparing of communication plan  

      - Actively communicate with partners and other stakeholders 

      - Develop corporate communication whenever needed e.g. technical content for public awareness or web information 

      - Monitor and supervise the implementation of communication strategy and assist in evaluating it at the end of the project 

      - Maintain and update the Asia high land project website regularly. 

        

      Requirements  

            - Master/PhD degree in water or natural resource management, or communication.

            - At least three years experience in project management and communication in water, natural resource management.

            - Experience in working with interdisciplinary teams and in systems analysis.

            - Comprehensive understanding of the climate change and water or natural resources management issues in at least one Asian highland country.

            - Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders, including local and national institutions.

             - Excellent verbal and written English skills, Chinese is also preferred. 

             - Communication skills sensitive to multicultural settings.
