Our Company:
Ruane, Cunniff & Co., manager of the Sequoia Fund (hi***com[点击查看]) among others, has a 45 year history of long-term investment in excellent companies. Our investment research style involves rigorous, in-depth and on-the-ground study of our companies' businesses, organization structures and management teams. We seek to utilize our deep understanding of businesses and managements to invest in excellent companies at low to reasonable prices. Some of the firms accounts invest globally, including in China.
The Position:
The summer intern will be expected to produce intensive research on Chinese internet companies. Pre-existing knowledge of the industry is required, as is fluency in Chinese and reasonably professional proficiency in English. Useful personal relationships in the industry are an advantage. The intern will need to be able to produce useful, actionable, thorough research with a great deal of independence, while being directed by a senior research analyst. The intern will focus on identifying the relative strengths and weaknesses of companies and management teams. Daily activities include developing understanding of companies’ products and services, contact with company management, ‘field’ research through contact with customers, suppliers, industry experts, etc. and written and verbal communication of findings.
The intern can be based in China or New York. This is a special opportunity for a Chinese student to intern at a very famous American investment firm.
The Requirements:
The candidate should be numerate, a self-starter and have an interest in business. Solid academic results, a curious mind and a strong work ethic are required. Written and spoken fluency in Mandarin is required, along with reasonable proficiency in English.
On working arrangement, it will mostly be in China in your own space, but maybe we will arrange for you to come to New York for a few weeks. You can tell us what you think about that. We are very flexible.
