Responsibility:
The task is to develop multiplex assays for detection of antibodies to defined protein epitopes and to analyse both experimental animal models and human samples.
Qualifications:
To qualify, the applicant must hold a PhD in medicine or biological science. Scientific experience and excellence is also a requirement.
Knowledge in communicating in English and computer skills and bioinformatic knowledge and statistical analysis are requirements.
Project:
The project led by Prof. Rikard Holmdahl and Xiuanjuan Li. aim to develop a vaccine against rheumatoid arthritis. The vaccine is based on a complex between the MHC class II molecule 0405 and a peptide derived from joints. To develop such a vaccine we also aim to develop a diagnostic test to identify individuals that can be vaccinated. Peptides and epitopes for diagnosis has been defined but their functional and diagnostic role needs to be better understood. As these peptides and epitopes are shared between mice and humans that are possibilities to make in depth functional analysis in the mouse. This will involve studies on immune tolerance and antibody mediate mechanisms of targeting self antigens. It will also allow direct studies on humans mainly for development of antibody tests on amultiplex platform. Thus solid-phase assays using aELISA will be compared with multiplex platforms using other technologies, one of them based on Luminex platform. The responsibility is to perform research and to publish results in leading international journals.

Description:
The experimental animal research led by Prof. Rikard Holmdahl and Prof Xiaojuan Li.The is to establish an experimental animal platform that will be used to develop knowledge and medicine for treatment of inflammatory diseases. The position will be placed at SMU, pharmacologic department.
Responsibilities:
The candidate is expected to make practical work in maintaining experimental mouse strains, coordinate and lead the establishment of a new experimental animal facility, cooperate with both Chinese and international members and leaders of the project, assist in research experiments and help with applications and reporting ethical permissions, and assist in administration of the unit.
Knowledge in communicating in English is essential. Computer skills and database knowledge is of value. Excellent communication skill and the ability to cooperate with researchers, veterinarians, bioinfor- -matician and animal technicians are needed. The work includes also contacts with public authorities and writing applications for ethical permits.
Qualifications:
To qualify, the applicant must hold a personality and interest to combine both willingness to do the practical work but also to take responsibility to coordinate and direct the establishment of a new experimental animal facility.
An education in biological and medical science is needed and animal research experience is needed. Fluency in English is a requirement.
