Overview

The intern will support the ongoing research at WRI’s Finance Center. This may include 1) a research report on Green Financing Reform and the Promotion of Green Transformation for the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development (CCICED); 2) research on China’s overseas investment; 3) scoping sustainable investment trends and methodologies in developing countries. By using a mix of research methods and outreach coordination, the intern will help the team gain insight into the challenges and opportunities on the above topics.

WRI’s Finance Center works with public and private financing institutions, investors, businesses, project developers, governments and civil society to scale up investments in low-carbon, climate-resilient activities—particularly in the developing world. In our partnership with CCICED, a high-level international advisory Task Force co-chaired by Dr. Andrew Steer, President and CEO of WRI, has been set up. WRI’s Finance Center will provide policy analysis support to the Task Force that will offer policy recommendations directly to Chinese decision makers.

Responsibilities

60% Research

  • Conduct desk top research and write literature reviews
  • Collect, organize, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data
  • Draft case studies, outreach materials, talking points, presentations, blogs and other online communications
  • Attend meetings and conference calls with WRI colleagues and external partners in government, academia, business/finance, and civil society.

40% Administrative Support

  • Assist in the planning and organization of workshops, conferences and events
  • Coordinate meetings and conference calls
  • Organize travel and logistical arrangements for a Senior Associate in China
  • Support reimbursement processes

Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelor degree (preferably in public finance/banking, environmental economics, development studies, or related fields)
  • Optional: Degree preferred: Master’s degree
  • Robust research, analytical, and oral/written communication skills
  • Good knowledge of financial markets/institutions, climate change, and environment protection
  • Proficiency in English and Mandarin (spoken and written)
  • Excellent computer skills in Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint, and internet research
