Web Infrastructure Specialist

Location: Guangzhou

Purpose of Job

The Web Competence Centre Hosting Team manages the web Infrastructure for all Mars' Internet & Intranet (Mars Web) applications. The team provides hosting for over 1,000 external Mars websites ranging from small promotional websites running on open source platforms to complex windows based e-commerce applications. The Internet websites are hosted on over 150 servers located across 4 data centers in Hong Kong, China, UK & America.

Working in the Web Hosting team you will be responsible for the day to day operational support of web hosting activities in the Asia-Pac region as well as supporting activities in Europe and Americas where needed. You will also work on a variety of projects designed to improve the Internet Web Hosting Infrastructure.

Operational work

Deliver operational excellence. Provide support for Mars Web and Mars Internet infrastructure including:

ž Server configuration for hosting new applications.

ž Guiding developers in the correct standards, processes and procedures.

ž Responding to infrastructure support requests within agreed SLA's.

ž Work with hosting partners to maintain the server environment to achieve platform availability SLA's.

ž Documentation of missing or out of date processes and procedures.

Project work

Manage assigned projects in the Web hosting area to improve service availability, reduce time to deployment and save costs, typical projects include:

ž Server consolidation and migrations.

ž Hardware lifecycle management.

ž Implementing new technology and tools.

ž Cloud hosting migration.

The Web CC hosting role is multidiscipline and will include hardware, software and hand over to production as well as working closely with developers and our Managed Hosting Providers.

Key Results Area

Ÿ Deliver operational excellence providing support and services within agreed SLA's.

Ÿ Initiate and drive R&D activities associated with Web Hosting to review the current infrastructure solutions and identify opportunities to further improve the service through enhanced features and lower cost of ownership.

Ÿ Design, plan and implement infrastructure enhancement projects following the EBC for Technologies methodology.

Ÿ Actively acquire skills in appropriate new technologies whilst continuing to maintain and grow existing technical skills in relevant areas.

Ÿ Collaborate closely with the other Web CC teams in each region to provide expert advice, develop robust solutions and to drive technical and service improvements for the Web Hosting area.

Ÿ Priorities and manage the workload of outsourced specialists working on development projects.

Applicant must demonstrate a strong technical ability and should have a good general understanding of Internet technologies. Skills should include several of the following:
