The UM-SJTU JI is an English-based higher education institute founded in 2006, in collaboration between the University of Michigan and Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The Chinese Government and both partner universities are fully committed to developing JI as a world-class institute for engineering education. In 2014, JI was the first Chinese institution to win the prestigious Andrew Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education—one of the highest honors in international higher education. In a short time, JI has become the model example for Sino-American educational collaboration. JI currently offers undergraduate and graduate degree programs in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, and Material Science & Engineering based on University of Michigan's curricula. All course instruction is in English. Technical Communication courses aim at providing engineering students with the tools to express their ideas professionally, in both written and oral forms. Courses cover several types of technical communication, such as personal statements, business letters, progress reports, lab reports, academic articles, and scientific posters and presentations. The JI operates on a three-semester schedule. The successful candidate is expected to teach 6 courses a year, 3-4 credits each course. Courses expected to be taught would include various levels of Technical Communication and potentially liberal arts courses in interest fields of the candidate. What are covered in the Technical Communication courses include but not limited to proposals writing, technical report writing, visuals, presentation skills, manuals, personal statements, and curriculum vitae.

|
Primarily teach Technical Communication courses with the possibility of teaching other liberal arts courses. Prepare and conduct classes, design homework and supervise examinations Maintain office hours (2 hours per course per week) to meet with one’s students Guide Teaching Assistants for recitation classes and grading Upload teaching materials and relevant information to the course website Participate in program development and planning and other common non-teaching duties. |
