CMB Chief Operating Officer’s Office
You will understand the operational flow between Chief Operating Officer’s Office (COO Office) and other departments within CMB. Upon completing an attachment with COO Office, you will have acquired a basic understanding of CMB business model, products, strategies and policies; as well as a general understanding of the banking business.
Corporate Wealth and Sales Management
You will be trained in how to provide professional advice to corporate customers on cash management, treasury, insurance and investment products – all areas of expertise that are crucial to success in the competitive CMB segment.
Global Trade and Receivable Finance
You will have an overview on Global Trade and Receivable Finance (GTRF) products and their daily activities. Upon completing an attachment with GTRF, you will have gained practical experience of the major trade processes that are among the critical elements of providing quality lending services to customers.
Global Liquidity and Cash Management
You will understand how Global Liquidity and Cash Management (GLCM) department operates, have an overview on how GLCM works with the business segments and understand the product development and commercialization product cycle.
Relationship Management
Through building close relationships with our customers and understanding their needs, Relationship Management ensures we deliver tailor-made financial services that contribute to their business success. You will gain valuable connections and experience through managing a portfolio of commercial customers, deepen your knowledge of various industries and hone your financial analysis skills.
During your three-year programme, you will have an attachment in Hang Seng China to gain exposure to the China business and market.
Familiarisation
You will be able to gain a better understanding on the overall business direction and operations of different internal divisions. Networking
As a Management Trainee, you will have many opportunities to represent Hang Seng at business events and corporate social responsibility functions, and participate in various internal staff activities, offering you the chance to polish your interpersonal and communication skills and build new relationships both within and outside the Bank.
After completing the programme with Financial Control, you will be ready to join our team of experts and become a long-term member of our team. In this role, you will be expected to lead a team that functions as a business partner for other internal business units, use your accounting knowledge to analyse financial information and provide advice to senior management on the future business growth of the Bank, ensure the Bank’s financial health by managing its balance sheet risks and allocating resources appropriately to meet performance objectives, and work with regulators and external examiners to make sure that regulatory capital is managed in a fit and proper manner.
In addition, after three years’ practical experience with us as a Financial Control Management Trainee you may also be accorded a professional qualification in accountancy.
Asset Liability and Capital Management
You will be expected to assist in preparing materials for the Bank’s Asset and Liability Committee (ALCO) and take part in the preparation of risk-weighted asset calculations for capital reporting and planning.
Insurance Business Finance
You will have opportunity to participate in various insurance financial closing activities such as discussions with the Actuary Department on the financial results, life insurance investment accounting and reporting, actuarial reserve reviews and solvency margin calculations. Upon completing the attachment, you will gain an understanding of the insurance regulatory framework and various insurance products.
Global Markets Finance
You will take part in the preparation of management reports for the Bank’s treasury and investment business. And you will assess the impact on profits and losses from the introduction of new products or treasury accounting standards.

Retail Banking and Wealth Management Risk
You will be able to participate in how the RBWM Risk team plays the Risk Steward and Risk Advisor roles in setting the risk appetite of retail lending and monitoring the portfolio of retail & wealth management products to inform and refine credit policies, procedures and models via a wide range of risk management governance frameworks and controls.
Wholesale Credit and Market Risk
You will develop knowledge and practical experience in setting and monitoring policies and appetite for credit risk across a range of dimensions to approve credit facilities requested by wholesale banking businesses while providing independent reviews of risk and managing problem exposures. You may also understand how Risk Identification, Credit Policy, Portfolio and Controls and Analytics etc. collaborate to fulfil the second line of defense role.
Regulatory Compliance
You will be expected to form good partnership with different business streams and provide professional advice in regulatory compliance matters for line management by offering independent and objective oversight. After the attachment, you will strengthen your advisory skills and be able to become a strategic partner to provide risk consulting service for the business.
Financial Crime Compliance
You will be able to undertake the duty of Financial Crime Compliance Advisory and/or Financial Crime Risk investigations in a professional and efficient manner so that the Bank and Regulators’ standards are fulfilled. You will also be required to keep abreast of the new development and intelligence associated with Anti-Bribery and Corruption as well as Sanctions.
Risk Strategy / Insurance Risk
Subject to operational demands and needs, you may be attached to either of these Risk functions. You will develop fundamental knowledge in stewarding the Bank’s risk activities to comply with regulatory requirements and strengthening the risk culture within the Bank.

Global Markets (Overview)
GM provides superior service, fully integrated solutions and 24-hour global markets coverage. We provide a full spectrum of treasury services to the Bank’s customers, including foreign exchange, interest rate risk management, derivatives products, capital markets instruments, as well as market intelligence on global trends and key developments.
Treasury Solution
The Treasury Solution team in GM provides treasury products and services to the Bank’s client with focus on various customer segments. With well-developed IT infrastructure, the team is able to gain quick access to key markets and provide updated financial market information to customers. During your attachment in Treasury Solution, you will be given the opportunities to support and deliver high quality and robust customer services. You will also gain experience through internal collaboration with various stakeholders such as Relationship Managers, Branches and other internal departments, these collaborations enable the team to maintain relationships with customers, identify their hedging needs and to provide appropriate treasury products and solutions.
Global Markets Chief Operating Office (GM COO)
In GM, the COO team works closely with businesses to execute business plans and deliver strategic initiatives. Besides, the team also work with various internal and external counterparts to ensure proper controls, relevant policies and regulatory requirements are in place and complied. During your attachment in GM COO, you could gain knowledge on relevant regulation, governance and control that are applicable to the GM business. Your will also gain valuable project management skills by handling business and regulatory related projects assigned.
Regulatory Compliance
You will understand how Regulatory Compliance provides proactive assistance in identifying, assessing and containing Compliance Risk; fostering a compliance culture; optimising relations with regulators; and preserving the Bank’s reputation in the marketplace by ensuring that our policies comply with the spirit and letter of the laws and regulations wherever we do business.
Financial Crime Compliance
You will understand how Financial Crime Compliance supports anti-money laundering investigation, formulates policies and framework on sanctions and anti-bribery and corruption issues. You will have acquired a basic understanding on the Group’s anti-money laundering policies and regulatory requirements.
Wholesale Credit and Market Risk
You will understand the approvals, policies, portfolio management and recovery of the Bank’s wholesale credit and market risk exposures.

You will participate in strategic management for General Insurance, Medical Insurance and MPF and collaboration with our strategic partners QBE and Bupa. This includes matching sales target and negotiated terms with our partners, as well as developing marketing and sales strategies focusing on your business lines along with sales channel analysis.
Insurance Actuarial, Risk Management and Investment
You will acquire expertise through active engagement in multiple insurance actuarial and risk management tasks, such as Asset Liability Management addressing market risk, valuation of insurance business, and product development including experience studies amongst other quantitative analysis. You will also work with our Investment team on managing the insurance premium assets.
Channel Management & Servicing Proposition
You will have the opportunity to work with different stakeholders to develop and implement multi-channel (e.g. branch network, commercial and corporate channel, digital and phone banking) strategies to meet customer demands. Corporate Real Estate Department provides a wide range of property services, including facilities management, collateral appraisal, capital projects management and property asset management. Our real estate portfolio includes leased and owned properties for operational use and investment purposes. We provide professional services and advice internally to staff and business units and externally to landlords and tenants. Under this attachment, you will acquire professional knowledge in relation to property markets, building and construction, property-related regulations, and general management skills such as business analysis, stakeholder management and communication / negotiation skills.
HOST Risk and Administration Office
The HOST Risk and Administration Office provides a variety of services and support to HOST units and internal users of the Bank. You will play a key role in managing business risk and control, providing corporate services, planning and development activities, operational management and procurement. Under this attachment, you will acquire a solid understanding of the operational and procurement needs of various departments. You will also learn how to develop comprehensive solutions to help internal units and individuals operate more efficiently and effectively.
Information Technology
Information Technology facilitates the success of our business. It underpins the reshaping of the Bank into an organisation that is more streamlined, more efficient and delivers faster for the business and our customers. Under this attachment, you will learn the latest IT applications for the banking industry as well as the importance of IT in enhancing the efficiency and competitiveness of the Bank. You will also gain knowledge of the Bank’s IT infrastructure and supporting services, which are both fundamental components of the Bank’s daily business operations.
Special Project
The Special Project Team provides dedicated oversight of and support for the implementation of the Bank’s Financial Crime Risk Management programme (which covers issues such as anti-money laundering, sanctions and anti-bribery & corruption) and building a more effective and sustainable Financial Crime Risk management capability for the Bank. The team also drives the strengthening and deployment of the Bank’s Critical Data Quality Management Framework and is a frontrunner in the leadership and delivery of the Bank’s global data governance and control structure. Under this attachment, you will gain experience in providing support to the Financial Crime Risk Management programme and data quality management initiatives.
Transformation
Transformation is a programme management unit that facilitates the delivery of changes across businesses and functions. Under this attachment, you will develop your programme and project management skills in areas such as consulting, business analysis, process design and engineering, communication, stakeholder management, resource management and change management. Through participating in or leading projects, you will learn more about various business / function strategies and priorities, and how to achieve successful delivery of change programmes or projects that help to grow the Bank’s business and/or enhance organisational effectiveness.
During this three-year programme, you will also have an attachment in Hang Seng China to gain exposure to our China business.

Business strategic study
You will lead or support strategic business studies that are cross-businesses, functions and/or geographies in nature, derive actionable insights and make appropriate recommendations to the Bank’s senior management.
Corporate development
You will have the opportunity to take part in the execution of acquisitions and disposals (A&D) projects, support governance of the Bank’s corporate investments and exploit synergies in accordance to the Bank’s strategic priorities.
Executive office support
You will support key activities of executive office including but not limited to presentation materials for external and internal meetings, relationship management with key external and industry bodies and monitoring of business results; advocate and facilitate cross-business collaborations.
