The Kavli Institute for Astronomy and Astrophysics (KIAA) at Peking University invites applications for postdoctoral research appointments. The appointment will be for two years, renewable for a third year subject to a performance evaluation and the availability of funding.

We seek qualified applicants to work with Professor Li-Xin Li on topics related to any of the following fields: neutron star mergers, general relativity, and cosmology. In particular, we are interested in the following problems: (1) Nuclear reaction and nucleosynthesis in neutron star mergers; (2) Radiative transfer and the origin of opacities in the ejecta of neutron star mergers; (3) Numerical relativity and gravitational waves; (4) Application of gravitational waves in astrophysics and cosmology; (5) Gravitational lensing of transient sources (supernovae, gamma-ray bursts, gravitational wave bursts); (6) Axion astrophysics and cosmology; (7) Black hole thermodynamics, extra-dimensions, and brane gravity. Applicants with experience in the fields outlined above are especially encouraged to apply.

Astrophysics at Peking University includes a total of 25 faculty, 35 postdoctoral fellows, 80 graduate students, 120 undergraduates, and many visiting scholars. KIAA is located on the historic grounds of Peking University, has English as the working language, and regularly sponsors thematic workshops and conferences to provide a platform for national and international scientific exchanges. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ph.D. in astronomy, physics, or related fields completed or expected by the effective date, and a demonstrated record of research excellence. Candidates of any nationality are encouraged to apply.
