Senior Research Engineer
Job Overview
This position is responsible for the research of systems, applications, and network devices for vulnerabilities and malicious code (threat content), attack techniques, and for designing detection and cleaning procedures for computer malware, in support of eTrust security products. Content is for all eTrust products that contain anti-malware engines and require regular signature updates. The research outcome includes malware analysis and descriptions provided for the threat information database.

Key Responsibilities
· Disassemble and analyze malicious code/exploits.
· Design system detection and clean procedures and/or scripts to mitigate malware or vulnerability risk
· Monitor public/private sources of information for vulnerabilities and/or malicious code.
· Correlate threat content to industry peers.
· Test and validate threat content through lab testing.
· Assist development teams to create new threat mitigation measures.
· Provide detailed documentation for threat content descriptions and mitigation strategies.
· Provide backend support to level 1 and level 2 support teams.
· Maintain internal and external network of relationships within the field.

· Handle moderately complex problems that arise in everyday work, and escalate more complex problems.
· Prioritize work to make best use of resources.
Position-Specific Education, Experience and Skills

Preferred Education

Bachelor\'s Degree in Computer Science or related discipline

Work Experience

Typically, 4 to 6 years of relevant experience.

Specific Skills

Ability to de-compile program executables and analyze abnormalities. Working knowledge of x86 assembler, BIOS, DOS interrupts, API calls, and different file formats. Working knowledge of trade tools and utilities (disassemblers, debuggers, compilers). Strong knowledge of networking, traffic analysis and packet decomposition. Experience with scripting, Internet protocols and vulnerability techniques. Working knowledge of Windows/Linux/Unix operating systems. Proven ability to meet/exceed deadlines. Ability to succeed in a team based but relatively autonomous environment. Understanding of the product development and signature update life cycle. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work independently and within a team environment. Senior Research position requires someone who is very highly self-motivated and can perform extensive research on highly technical issues. Security experience with some of the following is preferred: Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, XP, 2003 and/or Unix, transport protocols (TCP/IP, IPX/SPX, NetBEUI), Ethernet, firewalls, intrusion detection, encryption, routers, switches, etc
