Nestlé, the world's largest food manufacturer, was established in 1867 in Switzerland. The company's sales in 2000 reached 81.4 billion Swiss Francs (RMB 420 billion).
Nestlé's range of world-renowned products and beverages includes milk powder, condensed milk, infant nutrition products, yogurts, ice cream, coffee, instant chocolate and tea beverages, mineral water, chocolate and confectionary goods, bouillons, sauces, seasonings, culinary products, and frozen foods. The Nestlé Group is also involved in non-food-related products, including ophthalmic products (Alcon) and a minority participation in the L'Oreal cosmetics group. Nestlé operates 479 factories worldwide and employs 225,000 people.
Nestlé established its first trading office in Shanghai as early as 1908. In order to better serve the entire China area, Nestlé opened its Corporate Head Office in Beijing in 1995. To date, Nestlé in China has a total investment of RMB 6.0 billion operating 18 world class factories. Nestlé in China employs more than 7,000 people, and its total sales were about RMB 6 billion in 2000.
