Bluechip Program is designed as learning and training program opened for the top students, aiming to provide the world-class level training and learning opportunities. Prof. Frans Kaashoek from MIT will be the mentor for this program and coaching these interns directly.

Program Introduction:
Starting January 08, Professor Frans Kaashoek of MIT (
pd***edu[点击查看]) will visit Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) and Tsinghua University for 6 months. Prof. Kaashoek is best known for his pioneer research work in distributed systems and networking. Dr. Kaashoek is the recipient of numerous awards, including the inaugural ACM SIGOPS Mark Weiser award, and he is also a member of the National Academy of Engineering. During the visiting in MSRA, Prof. Kaashoek’s visit will be hosted by the System and Networking Area, which includes System Research Group (
re***com[点击查看]) and Wireless and Networking Group (
re***com[点击查看] ).
In conjunction of Prof. Kaashoek’s visit, MSRA’s System and Network Area will prepare a special “bluechip” intern program. Students will be paired up and work directly under Prof. Kaashoek’s mentorship. This program is an outstanding training and learning opportunity and is highly selective. We seek the brightest young talents who have high passion on challenging research problems in the general areas of computer and networking systems.
Requirements:
Position: Full-time Intern
Group: System Research Group and Wireless and Networking Group
Quantity: 10
Work Location: Beijing
Time Period: 3 to 6 months (longer is a plus)
Required Qualifications:
1. Talent students with BS/MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related fields
2. Strong desire to be hand-on and build systems
3. Creative problem solving
4. Energetic, responsible, and strong in team work
5. Experienced in C/C++, good knowledge on distributed systems and networking
6. Good English reading, listening, and oral skills.

Frans Kaashoek
Frans Kaashoek is a full professor in MITs EECS department and a member of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory, where he coleads the parallel and distributed operating systems group (
ww***edu[点击查看]). He received a PhD (1992) from the Vrije Universiteit (Amsterdam, The Netherlands) for his work on group communication in the Amoeba distributed operating system, under the supervision of A.S. Tanenbaum. Franss principal field of interest is designing and building computer systems. With his students and colleagues he has designed the exokernel operating system, the Click modular router, the RON overlay, the self-certifying file system, the Chord distributed hash table, and the Asbestos secure operating system. Frans is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and the recipient of several awards, including the inaugural ACM SIGOPS Mark Weiser award for demonstrating creativity and innovation in operating systems research.
