Job Description (Duties and Responsibilities):
This experienced software engineer will participate in the software development process for desktop products, primarily on the KDE desktop. A willingness to learn and ask questions, excellent troubleshooting skills, and the ability to focus on problem resolution are required. This position will work with the development, testing, documentation, and human factors teams to design, develop and test high-quality products.
Responsibilities Include:
o Developing, patching, packaging and polishing open source software for SLE and openSUSE
o Identifying issues and developing solutions for those issues
o Integration of Novell specific desktop solutions within KDE
o Developing test plans with QA
o Writing test automation scripts and programs
o Providing input for product documentation
o Reviewing requirements and design documents
Required Skills:
o Bachelors degree in CS/EE or equivalent and 3-5 years related work experience.
o Experience developing in C++
o Experience developing for Qt and/or KDE
o Experience with debugging technologies such as gdb, strace, ltrace, valgrind
o Excellent oral and written communication skills
o Ability to work independently as well as on a team both locally and remotely
Preferred Skills:
o Experience with distribution packaging
o Experience with underlying desktop technologies such as X, hal, dbus
o Experience working with open source software and communities
Preferred Locations:
o Nueremburg, Prague
o Highly qualified remote workers will be considered
