Background / General description:
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), established in 1966, is a specialized United Nations Agency, devoted to helping developing countries pursue sustainable industrial development. It provides tailor-made solutions to today's industrial problems by offering a package of integrated services addressing three key concerns: competitive economy, sound environment, and productive employment (3Es) at the institutional policy and enterprise levels.
UNIDO Investment & Technology Promotion Office China (UNIDO ITPO-China) is a UNIDO field operational office with diplomatic status. It provides a wide range of professional investment advisory services that facilitate China's access to investment resources, technology and know-how, marketing and managerial skills as well as in- and outward investment and technology transfer. Additionally, the Office also plays many other roles, acting as a consultant to the formulation of government policy and decision making, a facilitator enabling access to domestic and international investment resources, a supporter in the implementation of regional economic development projects and an organizer of forums and cooperation platforms covering a broad range of fields in investment and economic promotion.
UNIDO's neutrality, multilateralism, broad scope and professionalism combined with its wealth of experience in industrialization and a worldwide network of contacts makes UNIDO ITPO-China the ideal partner for two-way investment and technology promotion efforts in China.
Industrial Cluster Development and Capital Operation Program is established to work with the funds in strategic collaboration, helping them better understand China's investment climate and efficiently get involved in China's capital and industrial markets. The Program advises for ventures and projects in China in partnership with private investors and, through its advisory work, helps China local governments create conditions that stimulate the flow of both domestic and foreign private investment. Our particular focus is to promote economic development by encouraging the growth of productive enterprises and efficient capital markets in China. Clean Production and Capital Operation program involves in direct project investment and carbon financing trading in China. The program commits itself to promoting clean production in China by integrating direct investors with leading enterprises in the fields of wind power, solar tech, biomass, landfill, waste management, etc. In addition, the program shall facilitate carbon finance trading including CER and VER through its worldwide network, and assist buyers to be familiar with China's CER and VER market. On the other hand, the program is dedicated to improving the offshore investment of local enterprises regarding construction of renewable energy power station in foreign markets.
Duties and Accountabilities:
Program Assistant (Intern) will work closely with the Specialist and Senior Program Officers who are responsible for the design, negotiation and subsequent supervision of the Program's investment promotion projects. Interns assist their senior team mates in all aspects of their work, including but not limited to the following:
• Conducting industrial cluster and market research;
• Preparing documents required for UNIDO-ITPO-China projects, including project proposals and term sheets;
• Preparing daily newswatch and weekly highlight;
• Providing administrative support including office stationery administration, documentation and any other admin related work;
• Ad-hoc projects
Selection Criteria:
• Master Degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics or a related area.
• Strong analytical and conceptual skills encompassing finance and the allied areas of accounting, financial investment, portfolio management, corporate finance and economics
• Excellent PowerPoint, Word, Excel, documents development and Internet research skills
• Ability to communicate ideas clearly and confidently with teamwork spirits
• Fluency in English and Chinese is essential to produce concise written and oral reports
• Minimum 1 year work experience in related fields preferred
• Keen interest in development finance, investment and technology promotion and in working in a multicultural environment.
Other Information:
UNIDO-ITPO-China typically provides its interns with housing, communication and transportation allowance. A letter of recommendation may be given to interns who demonstrate outstanding performance upon request.
The interns should be able to work 40 hours per week for at least three months
