ABOUT H&M
Established in 1947, H&M has grown into a truly global fashion company with more than 2,000 stores in 37 markets on four continents. In 2009, H&M’s sales including VAT amounted to SEK 119 billion, profit for the year was SEK 16.4 billion and the number of employees around 76,000.
Our business concept is to offer fashion and quality at the best price to our customers ranging from women, men and young people to children. New items are offered to customers every day.
The H&M share is listed on NASDAQ OMX Stockholm.
”Fashion and quality at the best price.”
Our collections are created centrally in H&M’s design and buying department. H&M does not own any factories, but instead has around 15 production offices in Asia and Europe that work closely together with some 700 independent suppliers. All suppliers must comply with H&M’s quality standards. Good product quality is also ensured through continuous controls. For us, quality also means producing the items with minimal environmental impact and under good working conditions.
To us design is not about price and one way of showing that is through exciting collaborations with designers, such as with Karl Lagerfeld, Stella McCartney, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli, Comme des Garçons, Mathew Williamson, Jimmy Choo and Sonia Rykiel.
OUR BRANDS
H&M also includes COS – Collection of Style – a store concept that offers fashion and quality at the best price in a higher price segment, and store formats Monki and Weekday and the jeans brand Cheap Monday. We also offer fashion for the home, at H&M Home where customers can buy our collections of bed linen, cushions, towels and other home interior textiles.

PROFITABLE GROWTH
H&M’s growth target is to increase the number of stores by 10 –15 percent per year, but also to increase sales in comparable units. The growth, which will be entirely self-funded, will proceed with an emphasis on quality and continued high profitability.
In the past five years, from 2004 to 2009, sales including VAT increased by 88 percent and profit after tax by 125 percent.

SUSTAINABLE IMPROVEMENTS
Consideration for people and the environment is key in every aspect of our business.
?
All our suppliers are obliged to follow H&M’s Code of Conduct – based on ILO conventions and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.
?
H&M supports All for Children, a project in cooperation with UNICEF that aims to improve the situation of children in cotton producing areas in India.
?
Clean water is a priority and therefore H&M has signed the CEO Water Mandate.
?
We aim to reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 5 percent per year in the three years to 2012 relative to sales.
?
We are using – and continuously trying out – new sustainable materials. The Garden Collection, a spring 2010 collection made entirely of environmentally adapted materials, offers garments and accessories with floral patterns and a modern look.
?
H&M’s Organic Cotton range increases. Our aim is to step up the use of organic cotton by at least 50 percent per year from 2008 until 2013 based on the previous year’s target. So far we have exceeded the target, using 3,000 tons in 2008 and 8,500 tons in 2009.
