SCMP Cadet Programme 2014
Will the next big exclusive be yours?Hong Kong’s leading English-language media organization is seeking talented and ambitious young graduates keen to embark on a career as a journalist in this exciting Chinese City.
Our cadets will work with different sections of the newspaper, including our Hong Kong, China, Culture, Business and Online teams. Those who complete the programme and meet the required standards will be guaranteed a full-time staff position in the newsroom. Cadets will receive remuneration at competitive rates.
We welcome applications from highly-motivated candidates who have graduated within the past year with a bachelor’s or master’s degree in journalism or who have a strong interest in journalism with degrees in business, engineering, law or other relevant major. Applicants would also be expected to have a keen interested in Hong Kong and China.
A high standard of spoken and written English is required. Candidates who are also fluent in Cantonese and/or Putonghua will be preferred.
The programme offers a rare opportunity to acquire the skills and experience needed to develop a career as a journalist in China. The South China Morning Post has covered Hong Kong, China and international affairs for more than a century. We maintain a strong interest in affairs in our home city, Hong Kong, a unique part of China with a robust media and international outlook, and are at the forefront of the China story.
Applicants should send us a cover letter explaining why they want to join the Post’s cadet programme, a full CV, three published writing samples and a recommendation letter from someone familiar with their work. Details of academic qualifications, job experience, language skills and interests should be included.
Successful applicants will join the South China Morning Post’s one-year cadet programme, beginning in June 2014.
They will receive in-depth training and valuable hands-on experience covering one of the biggest stories around: China’s development and emergence on the world stage.
